Status: offline 		Presidential candidate John McCain has proposed suspending the gas tax over the summer. This would save consumers 18 cents a gallon, but experts say it would remove over $10 billion dollars in tax revenue from the government.

What do you think?

Status: offline 		i drive all over the country & the roads & bridges are falling to shit!!  i thought that one of the things the gas tax was supposed to go for was roads & road maintenance, like snow & ice removal...10 billion dollars would certainly help things...every time i drive through a city with pretty noise abatement walls & overpasses, i wonder how many feet of road that money could have repaved...

this may sound like i'm rambling & know not whereof i speak...it's probably true...i've had no coffee today, therefore no brain...i'll go back in my corner, shut up & nap now.....

Status: offline 		It won't do any good.  The oil companies will just increase the price to the current level to make up for it, and we will be even more screwed.  And they won't be able to build anymore bridges to nowhere, increasing the unemployment.

Status: offline 		It is a farse. Temporarily repealling the gas tax doesn't help any one. Why doesn't he try passing a temporary repeal of the oil companies tax breaks. :-)

Status: offline 		The man is running for prez......he's trying to buy votes.......I stay out of most political things, but if that man wins......we're screwed!

Anyway, Illinois tried this a few years back, they dropped the state tax collection for three months.....didn't make much of an apparent difference.  It was a temporary "fix" that didn't fix a thing.  How about Congress actually doing something about the big gas companies posting double digit profits while we suffer for their greed?  Then again, since most of the upper eschalon people in the gas companies know Bush.......well, that ain't goin' anywhere either.

I now drive a scooter around town....I pay $6 a week for gas, yeah, it can be a little incovenient, but overall, it's working so far.  And I'm seeing more and more scooters and motorcycles on the road here.......even in "winter".  Even bikes are popping up everywhere. 

I have noticed a trend in the last 2 years tho....they hike the gas up to whatever price they want it at, listen to the american public bitch, drop the price back for a few months, then push it back up.  And surprise, no one bitches about it.....it happened here when gas hit $3 a gallon last year.....when it hit the same here again this year, it went unnoticed...when it started climbing again, then the yelling started.....now the projected price is $4.....it will get close, then drop back for a period of time, and when it again hits $4, it will be accepted.  No, I don't have any answers to solve the problem, other than the obvious ones stated all over the news....stop depending on foreign oil, etc.  As long as we are willing to pay for it, well, then, we have no real reason to bitch.
