As if the New Orleans police don't have enough problems already...

quote:

Two New Orleans police officers repeatedly punched a 64-year-old man accused of public intoxication, and another city officer assaulted an Associated Press Television News producer as a cameraman taped the confrontations.

There will be a criminal investigation, and the three officers were to be suspended, arrested and charged with simple battery Sunday, Capt. Marlon Defillo said.

Looks like a self inflicted problem by the cops. As a former reporter, I don't have much patience with "pound the witness."

Once this is over one can hope the collective intelligence of the NOPD will have risen a bit.

Watched the video. Read the story.

Normally, I would say they should be locked up and someone should throw away the room. Not that it ever does any good to say that...

I'm sure stress is high on the NOPD right now though. My understanding is that much of the NOPD has been working every day since the relief effort started. Taking that into account, I'll just say that I hope they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

They won't be, of course, but I'd get some sense of justice out of it if they were.

Personally, I'm not that optimistic, but I'm sure there will be a lot more attention paid to the proper placement of a horse to block a camera.
