It is a euphemism for putting someone before yourself.

And see, I tend to take things literally, so when people say "he owns my soul" I don't see euphemism.  But I can see your point.  It's nothing I ever considered before.

I don't even think people own their own souls, let alone have the ability to own someone else's.

I dont know about anyone else but that sounds like fru fru land of the unicorns and pixie's crap to me (no offence ment really to the Unicorns and pixies) I dont think you can give up your soul, I think no matter how devoted you are how submissive or uber slave you are your soul belongs to you and to G-d it isnt something that can be taken or given. I think the entire "I give you my soul" thing is over romantasized unrealistic thing, maybe I'm jaded though I dont really think so, just realistic.

MS

I totally agree with you here that it is unrealistic to give your soul away. I also agree with Dynomyar that it is total devotion to my Master but my soul is mine it makes me who I am and that is why my Master loves me for who I am.

So, if the soul is the most precious thing a sub or slave gives up to another person, what does that actually mean in practicality ?

If it helps, please feel free to give examples of how you would explain my question.

Due to my religious leanings, I would never give up my soul nor do I even believe it possible. If I could and were willing, Valyraen would never accept it.

That said, I might use the phrase "he owns me mind and soul". It's romantic and pretty but not to be taken literally.

Give it to him, put it in a box, stick it in a can and kick it down the stairs.

You'll still find it listed somewhere between Siren and Werewolf.

I do.  In my personal belief system, God owns human souls and no other human being can supercede Him.  However, I agree with everything else you said, Ownedgirlie, as far as being willing to stick it out through everything even when others would advise leaving.  I wouldn't say Master "owns my soul."  I'd say He has my total and utter devotion up to the point He would attempt to supercede my Creator.  Master's fine with that and He agrees with my sentiments.  He's not a megalomaniac who would wish to try to..............luci

Dammit...I've already sold my soul to Satan for a pack of camels and 20 bucks for gas money, back in my poor college days. Wonder if I can make a return.....

Or refinance?

An excellent idea. I do need some dental work done, maybe a soul is worth a root canal.

Hi there luci :)

To clarify, it is my belief in God that has changed; not in whether or not he owns our souls.  I believe in something, I'm just not sure if I define "God" as I used to anymore.

Regarding your stick it out comment...it really isn't a choice for me anymore these days.  So he's stuck with me till he gives me the boot.

i believe that the owning of my soul is between me and the big man with the fluffy beard in the clouds *smiles*
honestly though, i believe my soul is what makes me who i am, and even though i love my Master with everything i have my soul isn't something i can give away.  i do believe that souls can be attracted to one another and that is that type of attraction that is so strong and so undeniable it's difficult to explain.  but that's just me

Oh, ok.  I wasn't clear.  I certainly understand that.  I think most of us go through some changes in our thinking over time regardless of just what our spiritual beliefs are.

I can definitely agree with the total devotion part. When it comes to the soul, who's to say. I do know he owns me completely, according to what works for us. That's what is so great about this lifestyle - we choose what works for ourselves.

I think you can have someones devotion and obedience, you cannot however "give" your soul to someone. I don't think it is within our power to give it away or for another to accept it. When I hear people say this I always wonder where the directions are for giving away your soul and accepting one. Yes you can have very deep feelings for someone so much that you really wished you could give them your soul but frankly, I don't think its within the human power to actually do so.

I'm not sure whether I have a soul, let alone how I would go about giving it to someone else. Even if the word soul is just a metaphor for devotion, I don't think devotion can necessarily be "given" or even deliberately created. It's something that has to develop organically over time, whether the devotion is directed towards a person, an ideal, or another entity entirely. What can certainly be given are promises of loyalty and obedience.

On the other hand, I'm quite happy to concede that my Mistress owns both my right sole and my left sole. As far as I know, however, she's not particularly into bastinado, so this is of little practical importance.

I've been thinking about this for the past couple of days and here are my thoughts:

My thought is that while you can't physically give away your "soul" (meaning the undefined part of you not covered by everything else), that part of a person is generally the last part to be opened to another person completely.  So while I don't give my "soul" to someone, I can get to a point where I allow full access to what is going on in my soul, I give him full view-- I guess full transparency, I tell him what's going on in the soul, I give him the insigts connected with the soul, I basically open the window to my soul completly to only those that I feel I can trust with that knowledge.
