Whipping

I begin with a disclaimer.  I know VERY little about whipping.

As with all forms of play, I suspect some like it harder than others.  And like with other terms, there are doubtlessly multiple definitions for it.

Here, I'm talking about the use of a bullwhip.  How hard are (and I REALLY hesitate to use the following word) most people flinging the whip?  Leather tipped whips can easily rend skin, and permanently scar.

For those who do not want that sort of interaction, is it simply a function of whipping softer?  I know the gamut runs from “dragging the tip along the bottom’s backside” to “long bleeding gashes” but can a blow land softly enough to look like a full force hit and not be so painful/damaging?

If you use a whip, what percent of maximum efficiency do you use for play?

I feel I must add that I do not intend to use anyone’s advice in lieu of experience and training.

With some skills and experience, you can make the whip do whatever you want it to do... most of the time, people don't use a bullwhip -- they are very long and require a LOT of work to be able to handle competently...

you often see people using single tails, usually about 4 feet long ... I'm not measuring mine but I think that's the average.  The tips of most whips are not actually leather but hhmmm... well, braided thread, for lack of a better term.  I'm sure someone can find the technical term.

I have a good friend who is quite the Master with all lengths of whips and in demand.  He's the kind of person you might try to find if you want to learn.

But the answer is YES.. you can gently brush someone if you know what you're doing.  I realize that some do play with single tails with the idea of breaking the skin but that's messy and for safety sake, you then can't have that whip touch the floor and/or use it on anyone else as you really can't get that blood out.  Personally, I have better more efficient ways to get blood.  *grin*

Many events have a single tail workshop -- not sure where you are, but if you can attend an event or some kind of workshop with someone skilled you'll get the ins and outs.  Single tails are fun, I recommend them.  And despite my many years with one, I've never been confident enough to try very complicated things with it.  I still get an lesson now and then with my friend.

There's my long coffee-less ramble about whips.  good luck

Like Madame said, most people you see using a whip, especially in an enclosed area, are using a singletail, or a signal whip. They flex all the way down to the handle (Ok, mine does anyway, it's pretty broken in... haha) while a bullwhip has a handle. They're also usually 3-5 feet, so you can throw it without popping the innocent people around you.

Personally, I adore being singletailed.  My first public scene was a singletailing (hate public!) up on a little stage in front of a bunch of people.. amazing how you forget people are staring at you after a couple minutes of that.. haha.

I've only ever been cut with a single tail twice, and not all over- it was from a wrap- the guy stepped in while swinging it, so that it wrapped around my waist- the tip accellerates then and hits a lot harder. But on a normal day, all that I'm left with are little welty lines all over. They are gone in a few days.

The thing with a singletail (bullwhip, snakewhip, signal whip) is it is all about the form, you cna get a very satisfying audible crack putting very little muscle energy into the whip. Throwing it harder is generally counter productive.
My favorite description of a whip is a $300 delevery system for a pieces of string. Which is what the "cracker" is, a length of string either braded or tied on to the end of the braided end or fall (The single leather length at the end of the whip to which th cracker is attached).

As to style of play I use with the singletails, I tend to be a "pain technician" when I use the singletail, looking for the perfect strike, and spending a long time waiting letting the hits really sink in. So I guess efficiency is really something I try to keep in mind.

I had the opportunity to watch a very skilled Master use a signal whip on a number of people at a party over a year ago.  I had been playing in His dungeon, and over the course of the evening, had probably flogged eight or nine ladies.  Naked, or wearing only panties, their wrists bound to an overhead bar, I would use My various 'stages' of paired floggers, starting with the 'softest', and proceeding through the ones with the most sting, and/or heaviest thud.

After I finished with each person, the Master (who wandered all over the house checking on His guests) would reappear at the dungeon door, and pick up his signal whip, and take over where My flogging had left off.

He would start swinging the whip in a gentle figure eight, moving very slowly, half a step closer to the person with each stroke.  With every second stroke (or so), He would gently drag the tip of the whip across the upper skin of a breast, the taut skin of the stomach, or the flesh of an upper thigh.  He never took his eyes off the subject's face, watching every expression carefully, as the whip strokes gradually got harder and harder.  Still, contact was made wtih only every other stroke or so.

With some people, He stopped once there were some red marks, but not welts, and certainly no broken skin.

With a couple ladies, He continued until there were heavier welts, and even a couple places where the skin was broken.  He seemed to know exactly when to stop; safewords had been explained in detail, but not one person used them.

Then, before they were unhooked from the overhead bar, He would remove the cracker from the whip, place it between the subject's teeth, and give her a gentle kiss.

Before you play with a single tail......practice, practice, practice. The place to learn is not on your submissive. I've seen some pretty horrific things happen from a whip in inexperienced hands.

We were at a party when a guy somehow managed to get the whip between his subs legs giving her a 4 inch slice inside her labia that required stitches. I couldn't beleive the amount of blood.

Please practice on a pillow first. And don't use a bullwhip. The longer the whip the harder to handle.

Eeee! >.<

*Grabs crotch and squirms*  I'll second the pillow idea! I've also heard to practice on waxed paper, and I've used shooting targets before.

Edit: I've heard that this DVD is good to watch as well.

the test I had to pass was two fold and simple. Part 1 Hang a single sheet of TP from a string and clothespin. 50 throws, each one making the crack sound, in a row (make a mistake and start over at 1) move the TP without tearing it. Part 2 Dried spagetti targets cut off the piece in 1" or smaller sections.

when I had my first one... which never got used on human flesh... I worked at taking leaves off the trees on my roof garden... that summer, I'm sure they thought they had some invisible gypsy moths...

Joe Wheeler does make an excellent whip. I use a Mike Murphy snakewhip that I love. I am currently practicing, not with a human target, using twin bullwhips.

I have a dear friend Domme, who is very petite, who plays with precision using a bullwhip. She warms up using a paper towel held by someone's hands, never ripping it. I have seen her play many times and the result sometimes looks like she was getting ready to play "connect the dots" with the precise placement of little blood flecks. It has been very rare that I have seen such control, both with aim and intensity of the strike.

Sometimes I like to practice on a small wooden dowel that is hanging and will swing when I hit it, making it a moving target, which forces me to have a much better aim. I also like to throw the whip, or whips, without a target, with my eyes closed, so that I can better feel the movement and energy of the whip.

As others have said.....PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE! And have fun.

I'd just like to point out if your little icon girl keeps handling her snake that way, it's gonna pop her in the face real good... ;)

There are many more techiques to throwing a singletail than the circus crack type of throw. Like anything, it can range from feather soft to serious damage. It's all in how you use it and your skill in doing such.

Post-ITs are common around here. Hit without tearing, hit with tearing, call a number and hit it without hitting the rest etc.

You're in Florida...so try the Orlando munch next Saturday. There will be an expert whip demonstration done by Rapacious aka Rap.  He'll be doing at demo at the dungeon in Orlando... great place to learn.  He comes highly recommended...so look Him up. And i have nothing but the best to say about The Woodshed peeps.  They do training before the actual play starts.  Play starts at 8, training is usually an hour before...but check...for special cases it may start earlier.  Good Luck!!edited...Saturday the 26th...
