Evolution is not a system, it is a process, it is not seeking anything as there appears to be no intelligence behind it. I agree that their appears to be no intelligence behind evolution. I see two points of contention here. First, people frequently anthropomorphize things. It is a natural human inclination often used as a means of generalizing things. Evolution is no different. I once read a passage that went something like – the land dwelling ancestors of the whales decided to return to the sea. Now, of course, the land dwelling ancestors of the whales didn’t decide anything but I understood what was meant. Likewise, when I say that systems "seek" equilibrium I do not mean that there is an intelligence behind it "seeking" a desired goal. I merely mean that the natural tendency of systems is toward equilibrium. Secondly, you seem to take the word system as meaning a process designed by an intelligence. I mean no such thing. Systems can form and operate naturally. The weather system, for example. I include evolution in this. Evolution may be a naturally occurring process but it is a system. What occurs in one place (e.g. too many predators) effects what happens elsewhere (e.g. not enough prey to eat).
