I was the third person I know to get a cellphone. A couple of friends had those big old ones that cost a fortune and you learn to talk fast because even with their money time was expensive. Left one of them a two minute message once and when they called me back they said "In the future try to keep the messages short, it cost me a dollar to get that one". Yes I am that old I guess.

And I was the first I know to completely give up cellphones. People ask me "What do you do if your car breaks down ?" and I reply "Walk". Does anyone remember the days when there were no cellphones ? There were mobile phones which were very expensive, and there were ham radio guys who built special setups in their cars to communicate with a base at their home. Neither of these were a cellphone by definition.

Down long lonesome stretches of highway there were emergency phones every so many miles. Those are no longer needed of course. Everybody has a cellphone and batteries never die. And cellphones never break down, people just get new ones for new features and there is a ton of them waiting to go to third world countries. And even if a battery should die, everybody has a car cord and cars of course never get an electrical problem.

That's why we don't need pay phones anymore. And look how the removal of pay phones has stopped drug abuse in it's tracks.

Yes, things are much better now.

Term,  a non-suscribing cell will still get 911.   One can get a tow truck this way.

If you got rid of your cell unit- I have an extra I will give you.

I dumped the regular cell. Now have a prepaid.  It is to confirm meetings.  $1 a day and .10 a minute.  So- 5 days, 5 meetings, 5 minites each call.  $7.50.  add in tax and the 911 fee.   still cheaper then $42 a month.

I dont care... I love my cell phone. Love it... dont leave home with out it... I am one of *those* people walking around with the ear bud ( but mine is cute) in my ear talking while shopping... driving.. doing everything. I do however stop talking when dealing with a cashier or someone else.

I do not know what I would do if I had to be without it for too terribly long. I went with out mine for 2 months and borrowed someone elses. It sucked hardcore.

It is like the bank card.. I do not leave the house with out it.

i hate cellphones. hate hate hate.

unfortunately, i also don't drive, don't have a car, don't know how to drive, and live with roommates but basically alone, and have myself to rely on. hence, i've had a cellphone since i moved out because i don't really have any other option, particularly now that payphones are so scarce (and cost so much...seriously, who carries that much change?). mine's prepaid and i don't even use half my minutes each month normally. it talks and occasionally tries to text and that's about all it does. i don't get all that newfangled ringtone camera phone BS. that's what i have a digital camera for. waste of money in my opinion.

The worst part is the way they lock features on phones you buy so that you are dependant on them for the most minor of things. The Motorola has the Java app locked so you can't transfer applications you buy unless you go to a store or directly save them onto a memory card. You also can't blank the phones predictive I-Tap information unless you want to blank the rest of the phones memory with it; so if you have your phone stolen all they need is the number of your house to complete the full address themselves, security is shocking bad on them phones with the auto complete feature.

Yeah I got sick of buying apps from my carrier and getting hosed.. so I purchased a memory chip for it... ( and the jacket that upgrades the chip to fit into my pc or camera) and I work around it that way. I could not leave my carrier.. which sucks.. but I have the cheapest carrier and I am happy anyways. We have no contracts so no issue there.

I did break down and buy an ungodly expensive phone.. but I wanted a MP3 player, and camera. ( this was before I bought my video/digi camera)

I dont have any other mp3 player so it was a decent deal for me.

Yeah. I got a refurbished phone.   $50.  has camera- so it does pics and movies.  it has saved money on film.  many pictures are not worth paying to print.

refurbished is just as good maybe better- since a human has troubleshot it- it all gets thrown out fast--

as to accessaries- I grab them off of ebay.   it is junk from china, also throw away.  the differnece is- at mall you pay for the showroom.  same junk.

I go through a love and hate relationship often with my cell phone, it being a weird one, some three years old. It is a smart phone, something I do hate, as per my actions, it does learn and modify itself to my new ways, only for me to forget and wonder what the hell is going on.

What I do like though, is the option of a virtual  qwerty keyboard to tap fast texts with the stylus.

If I wasn't given it, I would'nt have got it, too weird for me, but am stuck with it until it dies, oh how I wait for that day.

I refuse to have one of these abominations. It's like being on a leash to the world-24 7. I like email better-I can deal with it-when I want to deal with it.

I have a prepaid tracphone for emergencies. 10 dollars gets me 30 anywhere minutes and it is good for three months before I have to pay another 10 dollars. I see no reason to have a normal cellphone with all its features. If I wish to talk to someone, then I simply use my landline.

I'm in the same category as Saint & annabelle -  I refused to get one for years & finally broke down & bought when my kid brother got sick - after he passed away it sat on my desk for a few months, now i carry it around if I think about it butin general it sits in the charger.
I got the el cheapo model - 14 bucks at target & 20.00 every 90 days
