Pyrrsefanie -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/18/2008 7:59:20 PM)

One of my coworkers is sick, which means that no matter how many times I wash my hands or avoid contact with her, I'm counting down the days until I wake up with a scratchy throat.  Last time the flu went around I would be sick for a week, get over it, and then two days after I got back to work where other people were sick, I fell ill for another week.  This lasted for like, three months.

Ginger ale and unsalted crackers for nausea, also oatmeal I find works wonders -- don't drink milk if you can help it, as I find it tends to aggravate the throat, and if you hate the taste of cough drops, Walgreens makes these tasty little ones that taste exactly like the old-fashioned root beer barrel candies.

Jagermeister also has the same effect.  Tastes pretty much the same, too.

Two weeks, stay in bed.

Read an article earlier, said this years vaccine was only 44% effective, normal rate is above 80%. They guessed wrong as to which strains would dominate.

Eat lightly, soup, crackers, jello, juice, etc.  Also, sports drinks are good for helping with the dehydration.  Do you have some friends or neighbors who can get you to the doctor or pick up medicine and supplies for you?

Nah, I'm a tough guy, I can go to the drugstore myself.
I was out laying in the sun today.

And I had a flushot last fall too. I get one every year.
The worst thing about this that I don't like is the wicked temperature changes, chills then sweating at night.

GO TO BED!

sexypet -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/18/2008 10:16:11 PM)

Fever cooks the virus, don't take the tylenol, (as it lowers your temp) either unless you run a temp over 101 for 2 days per my Doctor.

MzMia -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/18/2008 10:31:01 PM)

Ahh, sorry you have the Spring flu, popeye.

Rest and plenty of fluids should help!

I hope you feel better soon.

'tis true!  There is a purpose to a fever.  Best to let it go at least part of the time, if you can deal with the temporary discomfort.

winterlight -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/19/2008 12:25:44 AM)

for those that have gotten the flu out here in California it knocks ya for a loop for at least 2 weeks or more. I got sick and ended up with antibiotics and 3 other meds to take. For some it settles in the chest and gives you pneumonia. I had that. For everybody it affects them differently.

take care of yourself and don't overdue and follow the above advice. If you don't feel better please call your DR.!!

ThinkingKitten -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/19/2008 4:25:28 AM)

If you actually have real, genuine Influenza, and not just one of a myriad of other respiratory viruses running around (none of which can be considered "flu" - but get labelled as that), then expect to be out of circulation for at least two weeks (as some others have said), and for it to take at least a month for you to regain your strength. Influenza is nothing to mess around with - that's why they try to have a vaccine program, even if they're forever playing catchup to the strain variations.

I'm lucky - I've never had genuine 'flu in my life. (Braids fingers up to the armpits...!!)

Lucylastic -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/19/2008 7:21:04 AM)

kiwisub12 -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/19/2008 7:26:08 AM)

i had the flu earlier this year - i was off work for a week! that is the longest i have had to take off sick in decades!!!!    it was very nasty.

azropedntied -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/19/2008 3:43:55 PM)

Late 07 into 08 i have had  some type of flu bug 4 times now , and i am not one to get the flu .I also never get the flu shots , not that it would matter , they say the shots this year/season have been  very infective .I blame  all the people who came to AZ for the super bowl and brought in  out of state /country germs and viruses .

MladyHathor -> RE: Anyone else have the flu? (4/19/2008 4:21:02 PM)

Chicken soup---it really is a GOOD sure---the heat from the soup opens your head, the salt helps with dehydration and the chicked gives you badly needed protein--and watch a funny movie.

Hugs!
