Off Topic: Powerful Classical Music Service (Naxos Classical Music Library) Dear Collarme Colleagues. In perusing profiles, I've noticed that many folks evince a love of classical music and opera. Since these musical forms are an obsession of mine too, I thought I would pass along the details of a service whereby a listener can choose from a huge library of top-notch classical and opera recordings (20,000 CD's) for a very minimal charge (about 40 cents per day (not per track.)) Many of you may know of what I describe here. One orders Naxos's classical music library service, which allows complete continuous playlists of one's choosing from their huge library. I took the "Near CD Quality" at $150/year (vs. CD quality @ $225) because I have old ears and also I wasn't sure that doubling the bit rate wouldn't occasionally result in fractures in the DSL receipt/decoding process. Either way, it's a great deal. http://www.naxosmusiclibrary.com/home.asp Also, on impulse, I bought a pair of earbuds in Costco @ $70, because the packaging talked me into it. I thought I was an inveterate around-ear headphone wearer, but these converted me; they are every bit as acoustically fine as 'phones if not better, and win hands down when long periods of use are attempted. (It turned out I had to have my ears cleaned at the hospital -- jammed with wax; then they REALLY sounded good.) It appears they are what are described below -- very hi-tec: http://www.v-moda.com/collection/modaphones/vibe.aspx Lastly, if one is trying to pick the best performances using reviews as an aid (rather than trying to wade thru 37 recordings of the same work), these can be found copiously at: ClassicsToday.com (slight American bias) http://www.gramophone.co.uk/ (slight UK bias) http://www.gramophone.co.uk/login.asp?url=cdreviews%2Easp%3Ftype%3Dgramofile (also slight UK bias) Happy Listening!
