"Man is effective in the world not only through what he does, but above all through what he is."
Rudolf Steiner.

We pass through different stages of existence, including incarnating into an earthly body and living on the earth and this is what we commonly call life - a world of both matter and energy. We live in this manner for a short period of some years before leaving our bodies behind and returning to the spiritual world and living in a realm of pure energy.

What is the meaning of life? How are we to understand this relationship between matter and energy and to use our energy effectively? While you can look around yourself for inspiration from others surely the only answer lies in that part of you which was, which is, and which will be - your soul. Experience, memory, knowledge, needs, aspirations, dreams, these all point to your karma and ultimately, your path through life.

This is my own theory and not to be taken as established fact.

Aneirin -> RE: The most asked question of all time (4/19/2008 4:00:14 PM)

I have my theories Stella, but I was interested in what others might think. Though I do thank you for yours.

There is no meaning, life is a series of moments, stuff happens without any reason and all we can do is wait for the shit to pass then enjoy the happiness. Life is made by the people around you and the people are around you because of the person that you are.

Ohohoh
HOW much does that rock?  Seriously.[sm=goodpost.gif]

The meaning of life to me is to die knowing that you have loved and you were loved!

Many famous scholars, philosophers and mystics through history have asked and pondered this question, so why not the general populace now, as I am sure the question still applies in our modern age. With this in mind, I would be interested to hear the thoughts of others who peruse this forum as to the following question ;
What is the meaning of life ?

There is no meaning.  Life is.

Since all indications point to life as a happy chance and quirk of nature, there is no "meaning" to it.  (Sorry, all you theistic-being must haves - until you introduce your god to me so I can shake his hand, he is just a figment of your imagination)

mastervalentine -> RE: The most asked question of all time (4/19/2008 4:47:09 PM)

The highest purpose is to have no purpose at all.

If there is a "god" I doubt "he" "she" or "it" would want us to be terrified of being happy.
If there isn't, laugh it up, have some fun because when it's over, it's over.

Just an opinion.

Sure thing...

Step outside... look at the sunrise.. a sunset.. look at a tree... listen to a child laughing.. fall in love.. feel that giddy butterfly feeling in the pit of your stomach.. Watch the clouds float over head. Dip your toes into the ocean water and feel the foam rise up your bare foot... feel your lovers caress.... feel the sadness of loss.

God _is_ in the details. At least mine is.

When people say God doesnt exist I ask them to create a tree for me.. and explain to me it's beauty. I *feel* his light and warmth in me each and every second. I am so sorry for those who have never stopped to feel that.

To each thier own. But I can not imagine what a darker world mine would be with out walking with the creator.

All I ever feel when I go to the beach is the annoying sand in my pants. It's all about personal perspective I suppose.
