Phin -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/19/2008 2:37:14 PM)

source?

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/19/2008 2:48:19 PM)

Uhh there are no laws in place to not allow people to have intimate relationships with multiple people at the same time.  There are laws about legally marrying more than one person at a time.

this is true... to an extent. there are laws about sexual relations outside of a marriage in many states. I dont know the entire list, but I know I break the law often in North Carolina.,,,

Well there ya go then.
I wonder how they can be in favor of it when they can't even spell it?

sweetnurseBBW -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/19/2008 7:14:09 PM)

How is polygamy and polygamy the same? You are talking of polygamy. It isn't the same as polyamory.

wes20022001 -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/19/2008 10:35:33 PM)

yes they are the same

wes20022001 -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/19/2008 10:36:39 PM)

the spelling mistake is mine

Freely-consenting, adult, non-abusive, marriage-committed
POLYGAMY
is the next civil rights battle.

http://www.pro-polygamy.com/

Even though the OP cannot spell (nor, apparently, copy and paste), the site does exist, and is a relevant resource for this forum.

It is actually a decent looking site; I have seen similar types of efforts for Pagans some 15 years ago, and the gay efforts probably predate the original DARPAnet [1974] that formed the basis of the Internet. The point of the site is to provide the fourth estate (press and other media) access to quality references, essays, articles, and interview contacts.

With the current fiasco in Texas it would seem unlikely that many senators or congessmen would be willing to vote for polygamy anytime soon.

IMO there are too many ways that our system is linked to monogamy.  For example if hubby dies and neither wife has worked do they both get a separate social security check or do they divide the one that one person would be entitled to?

seeksfemslave -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/20/2008 8:01:10 AM)

You could argue that a well thought out law would answer just such problems.

DomKen -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/20/2008 8:09:57 AM)

Polygamy is going to be too small a movement to get laws changed for the forseeable future. The poly groups I'm aware of either have no legal setup, IMO not wise if children are to be raised and property is to be owned, or have gotten a kink friendly lawyer to draw up a contract that all the spouses signed along with various medical powers of attorney, wills and the like so they all have access to spouses in the hospital etc.. From what I was told it was plenty expensive and time consumpive but will hopefully save them all trouble down the road. I'm pretty sure the only things you couldn't get from this sort of setup is married tax rates and employer benefits, not insignificant issues but not insurmountable to a group commited to such a relationship.

DesFIP -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/20/2008 8:35:38 AM)

Considering that public polygamy in this nation is composed almost entirely of Mormons who coerce children into marriage, I doubt public opinion will change soon.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/20/2008 9:13:10 AM)

Everytime these laws have ever made it to the supreme court, in the last couple of decades, SCOTUS has ruled ahainst them.

The current fiasco is people abusing and corrupting something. It does not make that something bad, it makes the people bad. I do understand though that public opinion and ignorance will prevail via the political aristiocracy.

in the usa Poly is not a Morman because the head cherch in salt lake city hase publicly condimed itand would excomunicate any one that does but the movment is so any one can be a polygamaus with laws that protect those under 17.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Pro-poly law movment (4/20/2008 10:00:14 PM)

Why the fuck marry any of them? It allows a stronger legal claim. Just have poly relationships, declare as partners or issue limited power of attorney for things that are needed. No reason for marriage.
