Hi there, looking for a cage for the kitten, but the one's I've found don't come apart after being put together or they're too much of a pain.. Not a big place, so when I'm not using it, would fold it up and stick it under the bed or something. Let me know, thanks.

Most quality pets stores have metal cages that fold down. I havent seen a store yet that doesnt have them.

the cheapest option is a dog crates, there are 2 different styles , one the fold down (recommended which is what you want ) and one that is held together using long pins which is more for a permanent set up

To find the best place to buy my suggestion is to contact the greyhound adoption group out there ....just say you are trying to find the best place to buy a crate for a large sized greyhound approx 48 L" x36H x 30 or 36 "W here is one group , I bought mine thru a farm supply store which was much cheaper and sturdier than buying from local pet stores here http://www.greyhoundadoption.com/content/view/41/86/

I got my fold down dog cage at Walmart... it was 100 bucks cheaper there then any petstore. Strong when put together. Might want to look into it.

If you are on your local freecycle list, check that out. Occasionally pet stuff is offered.
Also Craigslist, both for sale, and post a wanted.

If You are handy with some power tools and have the time, i recommend swinging by the Dom Depot (Home Depot) and build Your own. Mistress and i talked about making one. Just thinking of a basic design brings to mind a framed out box with 6 wall sections made of 1"x4"s, all held together by embedded bolts and wing nuts for easy disassembly. Should only take about 12-13 1"x4"x8's which would total about $45.00 . As for the walls, wooden slats or steel mesh could be used. With luck, one could be made for 80-90 bucks and it can be what ever color you want

! This design would allow it to be disassembled into 6 pieces and customized to the size needed, which could be stored under a bed or in a closet. And if parts are seen, it would look similar to a divider used to keep pets/children out of select room. Surprisingly i am not an engineer, lol. This is just a recommendation but would definitely leave a sense of accomplishment when completed and would be strong enough for almost anything. If You consider going this route and need tips on the construction, i would be more than happy to help provide any explanations.

Not that i would use this as such, but i have an old bird aviary cage about four feet high, that collapses down to about four inches wide, with the base itself being the width dimensions (2 x 3 i think?). i don't honestly know how much they would cost because 1) mine was given to me over ten years ago, and 2) prices have changed alot in that time! But it's worth adding to your list of things to look at before you spend your money.

I agree with the previous posters. Metal wire dog crates are a good option. The big ones generally go quick on Craigslist. Ebay has some sellers that are actually quite reasonable for 48" (XL) crates. I've seen them for ar little at $80 including shipping. These are the foldable types with 1 or 2 doors. It tales all but a minute to get one set up and about the same time to take one down. The ones with the drop pins do take about 5 minutes or so to set up.

The foldable type is easily secured agains the captive sub trying to collapse it by using one or more padlocks on the clamps that hold the front and the back secured to the roof and the side.
