I am a Dominate woman that is new to the D/s life style and just wanted introduce myself. I will admit that I need to learn all that I can. Any advice to a new Dominate? I have been interested for years, reading all that I could find, looking around on the internet, just searching for what I want and need. The thought of having a man serve me for my pleasure is such a big turn on. But I have never looked for a sub till now, but have been chatting with quite a few in the last few weeks. What fun!

My first advice to you is for you to know that you are a "Dominant" woman....not a "Dominate" woman. Dominate is a verb as in.....I will dominate you. Dominant can be used as an adjective or a noun as in.....A Dominant seeks a man to serve her....or A Dominant woman seeks a man to serve her.

Hope that helps explain it to you.

Other advice would be to go to events and attend classes so that you learn the skills you will need. Take your time and don't feel pressured into trying something you are not comfortable doing. Most of all...have fun cause that's what this is all about!!!

First, hello and welcome.

The above advice is very good advice, and something that is a pet peeve to many of us here.
You'd do well to listen to advice freely given to you by those who have already made the same mistakes.
That's the best advice I can give you. And to mention that the dominants who garner my respect are those that can learn from their own missteps, and the mistakes of others.

Hey, alm1067! Since you've been reading already, I'd say it's time to go to the next step and attend some local events or workshops. You might even befriend an experienced dominant who would be more than happy to show you the ropes.

I'll add ask questions on here, and read up on the forums a good bit. The grammar issue might seem minor to you, but the more you read the more you realize that the mistake is almost a flag for fakes. If you have interests, search for them, 9 times out of 10 there are a number of threads on them already. Anything alittle farther out of the norm and ask it yourself. Some of us have been around a long while, others are just starting out. You'l always get a lotof opinions.

In time you will find out if you are a Domme or a sub or a switch. I started off thinking I was a Dom. As time progressed and I got to explore more of the lifestyle I transformed into a bonafide sub (or should I say, I was never naturally made out to be a Dom). Good luck in your progression

I am also new and learning a lot. Thanks to experienced advise on the forums. I am finding out that once you post your profile. You will get swamped with responses! Also found some great advice in how to weed out the boys just interested in what you can do to/for them.
Now for a few questions. What does the vanilla ice cream cone and the paddles mean under your name? I think I might know the answer but not sure. And if I wanted one how do I go about getting one? Also if I am know longer seeking a slave. How do I change that in my profile?
I would really like to meet an experienced Dominant and learn first hand. But not sure how to approach her. Or even where to find one that teaches classes. Can you use Google to find this sort of thing in my area? (Detroit). Thank you for any advice given.
