I am thinking out loud. When a big name was at Bucknell, I did not go. In part, cause I did not want to be in "lockdown". Another reason why, I heard the sorry azz whiney pep rallies so much, I can say the next line. Now an hour ago, my best friend called, do I want to see candidate x, front row., and he would drive. I said no, I wanted to do yardwork. The other night after 10 PM, I gets a call from a campaign!!! I was agreeable- but that is it. So tommorrow, I will vote, simply to be tabulated as "this citiizen votes"- so when I do contact to complain, I can say I am a registerred voter who always votes. So, will I have a Pepsi or a Coke ? Yes. I will have.

I am voting libertarian again for the Presidential. Need to shake things up with the regular politicians eventually. Neither of the major parties are truly for liberty, smaller government, or putting the corporations in their places. These three are the biggest I see that will keep this country going in the right direction.

gosh- they arent very private in this county. the poll worker just had to look at the selections I made.[supposeldy to "help"] isnt it suppose to be private like a bowel movement? diabold machines used. no return reciept either.

well the way i look at things,if someone does not go out and vote than they have nor real right to complain about who is doing things in the government.it's like thinking about what a person would do if they had won a million dollars in the lottery and never bother to buy even one ticket at any given time. either way i was too late t register for the primary today here in PA but,i am now registered so i can vote in the genral elections.would i switch how i vote depedning on who ends up being on the ticket.no. will i go from dem to rep if it turns out that way no. i will vote for the party i feel i can vote for,i won't vote for a differnt party than my own.does that mean i think McCain can do it.no. does that mean i think Obama or Clinton can do it.no. i vote for my party plain and simple.so at least that way i know i at least tried.

"This citizen votes" can be a very handy label. When I was a city reporter I saw it first hand. When a request came in, the alderman would first look in the voting register to decide if the person was worth the effort. The logic was, he may not be voting for us, but we might win him over and we damned well don't want to piss him off so he votes against us. If the petitioner didn't vote, they really didn't exert themselves. With computers it's even easier today.

I'm not really sure. There is a person who stands next to me while I place my ballot in the reader to make sure it is error free (I think that is what PAhunk was referring to about his vote not being private?). I have no clue what the stub is for, we've always received them in my county.

This may be highly controversial, but here is what I still don't get: why can't they just have plain paper ballots? The room for error is greatly reduced like that. Surely the accuracy and privacy are worth the expense? Or could it be that these aren't very desirable things?

My ballot was a fill-in-the-circle, very plain ballot, that was then put into a reader. Oh and there were no curtains in the stalls! Horrors!

It's my hope that when Obama wins the nomination, the press focuses on McCain's insanity. But, since the major media conglomerates are owned by right-wingers (Murdock, etc.) we'll probably see the opposite. We'll see much more BS about his "experience" (oh, like GWB ever had any), conveniently glossing over the fact that it's the advisors/cabinet members he picks which will determine the effectiveness of his administration (I think it's virtually impossible for him to pick people more corrupt and incompetent than the Bushites). And, of course, there's still all the lies the righties keep in circulation, such as his "Moslem roots". Then there are the legions of righties who will never ever vote for a black man or woman. (there are a few of those in my neighborhood, who will use "nigger" in front of me as though I were part of their sickness just by virtue of being white (hardly anymore, since I have let my hair grow [8D] )) Oh, let's not forget his "youth", as though there is some sort of deep wisdom senility brings (see the entry on reagan). I'm sure you can think of some stuff I've missed. [:D] Peace
