Status: offline 		I note that the Global Warming Brigade are hot on predictions that  lead to the conclusion that their belief system is true.

My question is this, if they are so good at prediction why is it that they failed to predict that a shift to bio fuels would have a major affect on food prices?

I can clearly hear the sound of pedals going backwards. Can you ?

Is there not an offset to benefits of bio-fuels, caused by the growing, harvesting and manufacturing process then ?  I have heard say that sooner or later agricultural vehicles will run on bio-fuels, but as yet that doesnt happen much.

Again, what does this have to do with Global Climate Change? It's an economic decision, switching from selling to food distributors to selling to ethanol distillers, in the case of corn, for instance. There's no change in energy inputs. It's the same land. Only the buyer has changed.

Part of what problem? GCC? Explain to me how GCC has anything to do with predicting foodcrop allocation. The OP is as stupid as saying, "Well, if Jimmy the Greek is so good at handicapping Belmont, why can't he predict the stock markets?" While you are contemplating this, look up "Strawman argument".

Technically it isnt, since the OP was the original thought, any subsequent post misrepresenting the OP`s view would be a strawman argument. 

My own post was more to do with the effect of producing bio-fuels, is having on the worlds food market. So in that respect i apolgise for drifitng off topic a tad.

I am with you on this,we are on our little mountain top with our organic gardens and converting to horses to work the farm,with the price of milk here in WV at 5.25 a gallon makes a man thinking about a milk cow or two,keep the steers for meat and sell off the heifers... We are lucky enough to have some nice hay fields and to grow some corn for the grain...Poor city folks will be hurting in a few more years...The use of grains for bio fuels has nothing to do with the global warming problem but sure puts a big hurt on food stuffs...bounty

Status: offline 		I agree that the way I phrased the OP was a complete cock up . What I was trying to say was this...

Hard predictions that shifting land  use to produce bio fuels would in fact cause food prices to rise have been around for some time. Such price rises would have the biggest effect on those who have to spend the largest proportion of their income on food. ie 3rd World poor.

These consequences were completely ignored by those committed to believing the very much softer, quite deceitful IMO, predictions that human activity is the cause of  global warming.

Now the hard predictions have started to come true the back pedalling is commencing.. For example the EU commitmment to the % of bio fuel to be used in the near future is being reassessed.

goats are cheaper, last time i checked.
