what is the thing that you most fear? something that you would not like to happen to you.

personally i would not like to become a vegetable. if i were to get in, say, an auto accident, i wont like to become a vegetable. If I had a choice i would rather die instead of becoming someone who would be dependent on other people.

Lose my eyesight. And I thought it was happening, last year. I had, for the first time, what is called a Scintillating scotoma . To say I was freaked out would be the understatement of the century.

My worst fear is to have a massive stroke and live.  I work in the medical field. I see people my age 45 and younger who had their whole lives ahead of them and one day...poof.  Now they lay in beds on tube feeds with bed sores because the nurses aides don't do their jobs in turning them and they slobber on themselves and look around and can't speak for themselves.  Their food is through a tube and they can't have fluids by mouth.  They lay there and pee and poop themselves.  It cringes me.

Is your vision better at a distance?

No. I'm myopic anyway. I can tell which direction the big E is turned. I can't read anything below that with my left eye. And that is an improvement from after my surgery. It was several months before I could make out any letters on my PC monitor. It was all a blur before that.

Well, I hope your vision gets better, HK. I'd be lost w/o my eyes. I don't want to have to rely on others.

Mine is being old, ill, poor and alone with no one that has a personal interest in helping me.I haven't offspring and all of my family is very distant emotionally and physically. I can picture myself in a rooming house by myself and that scares/saddens me.

Bury my children.  I honestly can't thing of anything that could possibly be worse.

I agree, a friend of mine had to do that last week.

I'm confused...Why would a friend of yours go around burying Katy's kids? Although I'm not really comfortable being around a corpse and of course I have much love for Katy....The reality is that my life would probably go along fairly smoothly after I buried Katy's kids...Anywhooo, there is always the post funeral "comforting sex" that would inevitably come into play.

Domiguy: "Katy, I am so sorry for your loss....I can't be positive but if you were to blow me I'm fairly confident that at least one of us would have something positive to say in the future about the events of today."

Come to Domiguy.

You are just sooo wrong that you're right.

Before that happens I think there is a farm on a hill, in SE Iowa, with an extra bed. Unfortunately there is a huge, obnoxious, extended, family that comes with it.

I happen to really really like OPF's.  (other peoples families) It is something that I occasionally think about in the middle of the night. That time when everything is still and it feels like there is no other human around for miles and miles. As much as I enjoy living alone I don't want to be alone.I've thought of making a pact with my ex, if we are both still alone and very old maybe we should be roomates but then again he is an ex for a reason! Thanks lovely LaT.

well i have to add on the fear of having a child die before the parent does, happened to my parents many years ago after their first daughter died,so i can understand that fear.i cannot imagine what they went through.

but also as another poster mentioned, sometimes yeah i too sometimes worry about one day being alone and dying without anyone there.

Oh, that's my biggest fear, too. I have diabetic retinopathy, and an operation two and a half years ago on my right eye led to glaucoma and losing total sight in that eye. My left eye is legally blind - acuity comes and goes with hemorhages. I am a reader and writer, and I know intellectually that I could continue my career without sight, but the prospect leaves me in a cold sweat.

pip, guarding what sight I have left

when i started this thread that was what exactly was in my mind. i had a cousin who had to go through that because of an auto accident. he was in coma for eight months and never recovered. when i saw him I thought " heck i dont want to be in that position".

I don't worry about that stuff for me. I know I can handle whatever life has in store for me. Moreso the people that love me, having to see me like that, feeling obligated to visit me and/or care for me.

I don't want my loved ones last memories of our time together to be with me, like that. I want them to remember the good stuff.

So you wanted someone to bathe you, cover you in sugar and spice, keep you warm and then eat you? Sounds like fun! LOL

What I don't want to happen to me is "being found half-eaten by my cats (thank you Bridget Jones's Diary)".
