NYsubboy -> Beginner looking for inexpensive beginner-type gear online (4/22/2008 12:02:17 PM)

Well I'm looking to buy some basic gear online (cuffs, collar, gag, toys, etc.) online, but most of the sites seem to cater mostly to the higher-end gear. Does anyone have any suggestions? Naturally you get what you pay for, but I'm just looking for some stuff to start out with, don't need anything with amazing quality. I did find this one site with some decent stuff, and they even offer free shipping. I was looking at these:
http://www.edenfantasys.com/pink-plush-wrist-cuffs/adult-toys-dvds-22572
http://www.edenfantasys.com/pink-plush-collar-and-leash/adult-toys-dvds-21687
They would be perfect, but does anyone know of any sites with similar products that aren't pink? Not that I'm completely opposed to trying the whole sissy slave thing or anything, but I don't want to give anyone that impression right away...or maybe I should just buy those. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Are you comited to the idea of buying online?

Collars you can pick up at any pet store. Some of the larger "pet-smart" bigboxstores will have a horse section where you can pick up riding crops for a song. Pop over to the hardware store and get a coil of rope and one of those paint-stiring sticks (they make great impact toys). On the way home drop into the dollar store for a bag of clothspins.

Your totaly right that most online places cater to the high end items. Cause the low end items you can get just by buying vanilia items and using them for kinky things.

I personally know the person that owns and operates Protocol leather, and I own some of her work, good quality good prices.

If you do buy from her, do ya mind telling her I sent you her way?

and if you are looking to make some stiiiiing... http://www.swtchr2.com/evil_stick_family_tm.htm again good quality and good prices.

Here are some inexpensive thoughts.

  • Go to Home Depot and ask them for a couple of "5-gallon paint stirrers" in the paint section.  They are free and make great semi-heavy paddles.  You can also get them at Walmart for about 30 cents each.
  • I also echo pet stores for a solid inexpensive leather collar for a large or extra-large dog.
  • You can make a spreader bar very inexpensively with a couple eye bolts and a lenth of 1 1/2" or 2" wooden dowel from home depot.
  • Find a mini-size metal muffin tin.  From Goodwill or a rummage sale, get an electric frying pan that has 2" sides on it.  Fill the pan with 1/2 inch of water and then put the muffin tin into it.  Unwrap crayons and break them into each section of the tin, letting them melt.  Then use a paintbrush to "paint" your victim with the hot crayon wax.  Pictures required!  Oh, a plastic tarp or disposable sheet also required.
  • If you have a farm and fleet or like store, you can probably get a leather "pig slapper" for under ten bucks.  Also leather crops or short single-tails as well from the horse section for MUCH cheaper than you would pay online.
  • 1/4" wooden dowels make pretty good canes and cost pennies at home depot.
  • Rope is good to have, but make sure your subject isn't allergic to nylon.
  • Vetrinarian Wrap is inexpensive and good quick bondage, but it doesn't go very far and isn't very reusable.
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT spend big money for a leather flogger at your local sex shop.  You may think they are cool, but later when you see a "real" quality flogger, you realize you spent 80 bucks on a piece of shit.  This is from personal experience!

Thank you so much for all the tips everyone! Very good advice...I do want to get a pair of leather cuffs at some point though (doesn't even have to be leather, I'd be fine with anything similar). Does anyone know of where to find some cheaper ones?

Phin -> RE: Beginner looking for inexpensive beginner-type gear online (4/22/2008 5:07:00 PM)

protocol has them for 25. you pay much less you are not going to get quality unless you are getting some used ones from a friend

I've gotten several good quality pieces at lower prices than most sites from this supplier. wwwdotbdsm-geardotcom  Scotty

The first pair o metal cuffs i ever bought... and still have and use, were from Walgreens. They are sold in the toy department and I think they set me back a whole $5 or so. Good construction, very sturdy and secure and you are buying a toy, so no explinations even need be made.
Want good clamps, use chip clips. Really simple and inexpensive and very effective.
A good part of my toybox is from dollar stores, walmart and lowes. Walmart pet deparment has very nice very cheap collars, too, if you are just starting out.

Hi! My first time posting here. i have found that if you check out horse tack shops and/or pet supply places you can find whips, crops and various things at a much cheaper cost than most bdsm suppliers. i've bought several interesting things from them and they are normally good if not better quality than the lifestyle places.

Hope this helps!

Lots of items in the beginners/soft bondage part here:

Also, places like http://www.stockroom.com/ sell some lower-cost and beginners items if you browse around.

I haven't tried this, but I imagine if you got two very small collars, like for a cat or a chihuahua, you could use them as cuffs. The only problem might be that they aren't wide enough to be comfortable. You could use rope or a carabiner or even a padlock to connect them.
I just bought some bondage tape, which costs about $15, and is reusable. I haven't used it enough to know whether or not I would reccomend it, but it is available online at several places (babeland.com, although they tend to be a bit pricey).
Saran wrap can be fun, although if you are trying to be sanitary (eating food off someone, or using it as a dental dam) then be sure to use the non-microwaveable kind, because the microwaveable type has tiny holes in it to allow steam to escape. Also be sure to have safety scissors (which are very cheap, and good to have if you are using rope as well), which are sold from both medical supply places and bdsm stores so that you can get out of the saran wrap quickly without getting poked with sharp scissors.
Have fun! Get creative!

This is perfect, I'm wearing some on my ankles and wrists right now, bought them last night at wal-mart. I got the ones made for 6-9 inches but they have all sizes. They all come with d-rings and the small ones have snaps that could help a beginner feel more comfortable about safety. They are rather thin, so they're for holding things in place, not contorting anything or it might cut off circulation hardcore.

When I bought them there was some guy restocking the cat food and he got to hear me on the phone asking, "Do you want 4 collars or 2, sir?" I hope it brightened his night.

oh, and the homemade dowel stretcher! love it! We've been on a diy bdsm frenzy lately.

I third this statement as well

pretty much anything in the sex shop you spend 80 bucks on is a piece of shit. my "corset" I bought could have been twice the quality for almost the same cost had I found the same from an actual leather-worker.

Horse hobbles make great cuffs.

conatus -> RE: Beginner looking for inexpensive beginner-type gear online (4/26/2008 8:17:28 PM)

try military surpluse stores with a little creativity you can find some good stuff there.  i once found leather restraints made by atlas security company (similar to humane) they were pritty cheap too.

When it comes to toys, you can't beat the Stockroom. They make really nice cuffs in a few different styles that are a little more pricey, but also have a Kink Lab line that is essentially a small starter bondage kit minus the heavy financial spanking. Have fun!
