Since most fishing weights contain, if they don't entire consist of lead. a can of tool dip will go a long way to keep lead off yours and the bottoms flesh, and out of your body, and they weights will cosmetically be more attractive.
A friend of mine has a 5lb fishing weight he has people use for CBT on him.
There are a lot of cheap things you can get out there for BDSM but it's important to make sure they are safe.. For example, using bamboo for caning may result in the bamboo splintering and cutting the bottom. Cheapo paddles may also splinter or shatter resulting in danger to the bottom.
Cheap clothes pins sometimes aren't very smooth on the surface of the wood, I've seen them tear skin when used in zippers.. Which may or may not be ok in your scene, but certainly if it's unintended it's not the best.
Don't be afraid to purchase inexpensive items, I have crap piles myself, just make sure you know what you have and what the safety risks are.
