My take on that whole scene was that the woman had been bred and raised to be his slave-wife. She had been indoctrinated from birth that this was her role. Any spark of individuality had been ruthlessly stomped out. She was a doll with a pulse, so to speak.

pip, definitely not a wind-up toy

I think that's the heart of this matter, and speaks to the OP's mesage:, which is about valorizing one's own sense of self and discursively establishing autonomy("I'm no toy," "I only submit when it's earned," etc.) in opposition to a notional (in this case fictious) representation of other.  The representation (not a real person or a normative theory) of an "empty-headed sub" is useful because it can be contrasted with the idealized self, who cannot be faulted for submission.

Considering his Mother the Queen's personality I can understand his frustration with that type of answer and with having a bride chosen for him which unfortunately many royals did before the 20th century.

Could I be that type of slave? To that extent no, to some extent yes. I can with some effort and incentive learn to accept things that to me are no, aint gonna do it's. Like Asphyxiation and choking, two things that have been hard limits for more years than I care to think of.  My immediate urge when Master puts his hands on my throat and squeezes is to fight, do everything I can to disable the person choking me or depriving me of air and escape. I fight that urge with every erg of will I have and yield my throat to him, at points actually encouraged it when he seemed hesitant because of recent illness on my part. Ironic in a way, as I am not submissive by nature, he recognizes that, but does not see that in fact it is an act of deep submission when I do this because he wants it.

In the movie when he asked her to hop and bark, I didn't get the feeling that he did it to humiliate her, but that he was trying to find some spark of personality or will within her.

I thought he was testing her mettle too.

Perhaps humiliate was the wrong choice of word.

The problem I have with the situation in that scene is that he gives her an order with his words, but contradicts his order with his intent.

If I had not been told which I was to consider more important, then it causes a no win situation. If I can’t win, I have failed.

Personally, I want an intellectual connection or at least a good personality along with looks. Of course, I have already had a relationship with a beautiful women with no personality.

charlotteS -> RE: Coming to America (4/25/2008 1:42:43 PM)

I think there's a difference between a slave who has no personality or preferences and a slave who chooses to place Master's preferences first.

When asked what I would like for dinner I often respond with "whatever you like."  This doesn't mean that if I was by myself I couldn't easily decide that I prefer Italian tonight.  It means that when with Master I will gain much more joy from knowing we're at a place that he wants to be than from being at an Italian restaurant.  If he is in a mood where he doesn't know what he wants I'll offer up what I am in the mood for.  Thus I have preferences but my number one preference is to be somewhere that the person I am with enjoys.  Because of this it actually took me a while to be able to recognize my own preferences and I was perhaps a bit of the vacant or empty girl spoken of but as soon as I started to be around people that I knew wouldn't let my preferences sway them to do something they didn't want to do I was able to work on being able to recognize my own desires.  I still prefer to go wherever the person I'm with wants to go though.  Seems like a preferences in itself to me.

So what sense do make of the sub's desire to serve?

Oy! An almost-5-year-old thread.

Does this win the Resurrection Award of the Week?

lizi -> RE: Coming to America (4/21/2013 11:06:04 AM)

Hello glyphboy and welcome to the forums,

Please refrain from posting on threads that are older than 3 months. If you'd like to continue a conversation from an older thread, the accepted method is to open a new thread and link it to the old one or just open the new one ~

About as much sense as people posting on five year old threads.

Sorry, Mods, but the lack of intelligence is ripe here today.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Coming to America (4/21/2013 12:24:35 PM)

This necro is even older than the “Does size matter?” resurrection.

Do you think ‘slavewithbigdick’ and ‘glyphboy’ are having a contest?

MasterCaneman -> RE: Coming to America (4/21/2013 12:39:28 PM)

It'd be a three-way with altmojo. He dredged up a 3 year old thread in Intros DarkSteven and I both replied to.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Coming to America (4/21/2013 6:59:24 PM)

In Intros? Geez! I don't understand what these people are searching that turns up these years old threads. How many pages they must read through to get to these. It's ridiculous.

And have you noticed how many never post again?
