My day started out great... I woke up a tad early (I didn't goto sleep until 5am..and woke up just before nine...
I signed on and found I had some camil...so, because I was anxious to know what this particular person had written, I came on to the forum...and wow
A story I had written in haste for one individual exploded nto a mass....I did not expect this..
Thrilled that it at this.. I decided, instead of going back to sleep; to make some coffee and settle in to a writing session
That is when the "fun" began.
First of all.... all of my coffee was gone save a few measly grounds...
Groaning...I decided...
"Mkay, I'll just reuse the last batch of grounds"
Now, if you make coffee as strong as I do (with ALOT of grounds)
You might know you can get a weaker pot of coffe out of you last brew...
Albeit it's a cheap "fix" but...what the heck....
Evidentally one, of three; of y roommates had decided to do this before he went to work this morning..
Except he went and did what I consider...ignorant. (well.....STUPID!...but I am being nice)
He poured the weaker brew BACK into where you would pour your water....
Yup...it clogged that sucker right up and it must have overflowed (he had hastily cleaned the mess) because as I lifted the maker, there was a black, gritted syrup beneathe...
Alright.. now I am a bit peeved...
I take the decanter and walk (because I have no vehicle) to the gas station eight blocks away (yes, we have ONE starbucks in town, but that is waaaaaaaaaay down yonder)
So that I can "refill" the decanter for a buck.... weak...yup, but needed..
So, am walking back (with a towel under the hot pot) when I see the other two of my roommates having a water fight in the front yard...
They are drenched from head to toe, as one use our house, and the other a neighbors (it was almost eighty here today)
So I walk around them as they try to spray me... as if I didn't have a hot pot of coffee ballancing in one hand and yelling at them to
"Stop or I swear, who ever falls asleep first will wake up with no eyebrows!" (uhm....trust me...far worse has been done to these two former bf/gf, now freinds with benefits even though they claim they aren't)
Which I received pouty faces of "children" and being called a meanie (they are in there twenties, going on ten)
So..I step into the apartment, which is an upper of a duplex...and I notice right away that the carpet is wet in front of the door...
I sigh (the place is not in my name.. but come on....sheesh) and "wade" through the soggy carpet, hoping that roommate 1 (the worker bee and main tenant) still had his mothers carpet shampooer (I hope ya know what this is...)
I nwalk into the kitchen and find it too has become a wading pool.
Evidentally, this is where the chaos started, for empty plastic pitchers and cups are scattered here and there....
Okay...I am not up for this today. I just want my Java, and to work on the rest of the story I had begun...
This is a two bed apt, with a HUGE living room.
Roommate 1 has the master, roomates 2 and 3 share...with two beds... yeah, they try so hard, but they forget that with the moaning and groaning going on, and no porn (other than on my puter) is anywhere in the house...
My area is a small corner in the living room mainly because I sleep better on the floor (long story).
This is also where my computer is of course.
If you have already guessed it, here is the confirmation...
My computer was hit with water....
I know what you are thinking.
"Uhm...Gimp...aren't computers covered by a casing?"
SURE!
If I was a regualar joe...
This computer was hand built (even though it was a pice of junk, I still slapped it together, mkay??) from several older computers, becasue I am a po' boy.
The casing is a desktop lay down (you know the type where you put the monitor ONTOP of the "tower")
However, I used a series of filters (like the ones in your furnace) on top, with cooling fans for ventilation
(this was a Pentium III that was overclocked to 650 mhz ...if you know computers than enough said, if not... let's put it like this... I entered a moped into a motocross competetion, and boosted it with nitrous.. and though it performs beyond its means, it will NEVER come better than last place...but one heck of a wild ride)
So, of course the motherboard is "Poof" gone, finito, hasta la blasta e fiesta.
Welp..I am not upset..I disconnect the power, scoop out the hard drives, and slap them into a different tower (with a pentium II, not overclocked just a piece of shhhhhh)
And it begins to boot... but..what...oh, it rebooted because it was improperly shutdown..
ok
Then it does it again
and again
and again
ok basically what this means is that (at least the master) is fudged and cannot boot...mmmm...ok,
so I slap in the orginal master of the pentium ii which has win 98, and select my "good" master as a slave...and well...
It said it contained 3 gigs of nothing
Now I can understand 98 not seing a twenty gig hd with xp... but 3 gigs..of nothing...
I run to a buddy of mine (literally with both "good" drives) and beg...(almost on my knees..and not in a good way!)
for him to let me use one of his (he is a gamer and has eight, count them EIGHT friggin computers for Lan parties and this doesn't include his monster personal server) spare computers.
After convincing him that I will help with rebuilding a few for him (he wants two more "slave" computers) he lest me crack one open and slide my abbies into a welcoming womb.
Sure enough... the surge spiked my drives.

ok, NOW I am pissed...which rarely happens (when I said shave my roomies eyebrows, I was joking and they knew it)
UBERPISSED
My bud noticed this....and came back with a cold can of dew.
The dew calmed me a bit (I have only sipped some coffee up until then) and I debated what to do.
I poured hours into using several data recovery methods (if I drive is burnt, erased, wiped, or surged once..the chances are pretty good that you can retreive SOME of the original data....)
Alot was gone for god, some a retrieved bits and pieces while others (funy, the UNimportant ones) could be saved.
Basically I wasted alot of time trying to put out a fire tire instead of just letting it burn...
I don't have cable, or a land line, or dsl. I connect through a wireless hot spot in my area (which they only computer that I could do this with was now a door stop)
You might be asking...
"So, how ARE you on then?"
Because I gave my bud a bj to borrow this laptop with a wan card...
no, I'm KIDDING!
It took ALOT of convincing for him to rent it to me with the option to buy (he's been wanting to sell, but I could never afford it..) so I might have a new laptop after oh..say ten years worth of payments...lol..
Anyhow..that's my rant....
Oh, and BTW...
I made the kids clean the whole damn apartment and they owe me a new (ok, used) working computer that was better than my last... (whether I buy this one or not...it's the principle, dangit)..
Alright..now I gotta do what I said I was going to do.
I appologize if any of ya'll are upset about me not getting it done by now..please forgive me....
