ElectraGlide -> RE: the biker (4/29/2008 2:50:34 AM)

I just went on a poker run Sunday, it benefited the Vietnam Veterans. It was a little chilly out but it was better then roasting in 99 degree heat. It was a great day, the ride went down Route 9 through the swamps of Delaware, I could see the Nuclear Plant in New Jersey across the river.

Thanks for the kind words TwiceHappy, thats a great video also.

There was a mention of a moped being quiet, my friend had one, and the head pipe rusted and broke at the engine, we could hear him coming up Kirkwood Hwy, over a mile away, it was loud, lol.

I am not Harley stuck-up, this is my second Harley and I love it, but I like all bikes. I have owned and ridden several makes of bikes in the past.

youre meetin the wrong bikers then-probably a bunch of rubs.....the ones i know stand for a lot.....they live it and really dont give a shit what anyone else thinks.......

Wait... so just because they have a bike, means they are fricking all american heros or something? What are they living? And of course they care what other people think of them. That's why they try so hard for the "badass" factor.

It's like the middle aged bald men who get a kick ass Ferrari, and proceed to look like a boiled potato in it. You just aren't that amazing sir. Try again later.

If you "love' your current bike, why waste time on jealousy? Spend the extra money on gas, tires, and hotel rooms instead [:)] It was funny as hell to ride into a Harley dealership in Utah in February looking for some cold-weather gear, and have the only bike in the parking lot... my li'l Suzuki with South Carolina tags [8D]

Alumbrado -> RE: the biker (4/29/2008 7:12:22 PM)

I have the old Honda Shadow over which Harley tried to sue regarding the close similarity in look and sound...always have fun thinking about what I could buy with the difference in price...

And... ?  i'll never understand why guys with fast cars catch so much shit. What do you expect a middle-aged guy to drop a bunch of money on? Younger women exploiting their transient beauty who are good at lying to them?

Ah. Nevermind... [8|]

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: the biker (4/30/2008 4:27:05 AM)

I like an Harley but not prejudice there have been many sit in our garage,My daughter owns two big ass BMW'S touring bikes just too much for me I probably wouldn't be caught on the road dead on one of those but have ridden them up and down the country lane....Now a fat man in a little expensive car is just that a fat man in a car but you know what it doesn't make a bit of difference some good looking chick will be riding shot gun with him...I am a garage monkey give me an old muscle car to build any day...

but riding a harley doesnt make you a non caring asshole either.....the ones i know are all employed-have ridden for years, raised families, done good and bad in their lives.

you may not mean to, but you come off as sayin all bikers are assholes......and thats no more true than sayin all male subs are wimps.....

ive never regretted any post i made on here than this op

.....none of my intent was realized except to a very few.  the rest was .....well.... i aint gotta clue where it all came from.

Seeks, mostly it came from one person on here who for what ever reason wants to down bikes and the folks who ride them, or prove how bad he is by bad mouthing a group of people online. And since he's over in another thread claiming all bikers are crack dealers or users i am pretty sure he means to sound like all those who ride are assholes.

I wonder if his list of crack using assholes includes the Governor of Indiana, Mr.Daniels, the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jay Leno, who all three ride Harleys.

I have given up even trying to argue with him, his viperous maligning of what he is unable to comprehend or appreciate is online babble only, so why bother.

Like they say " If I have to explain you would not understand".

Those who do understand enjoyed and took heed of that old poem, and appreciated your post.

Welcome both of you and consider yourselves added. I keep a list of a sorts because every now and then i send out bike related emails to those i know are interested. Events, bike posts, stuff like that. Either of you coming to the Indians ABATE Boogie in July? Or going to the 105th anniversary party for Harley?

You are welcome EG, Scooter got a cd in the mail with that and a few other nice videos on it. It had one about the new HD Rocker which i must admit is pretty hot looking. Though i confess to being a die hard Panhead lover, they just ooze sex.

Great pics on your myspace, thanks for the link.

I probably won't get to any events for a couple years. I have a 12 hr/day 6 days/wk work schedule (I own/operate a retail store). And I'm such a newbie (riding about 1 1/2 yrs) that I haven't even gone on the highway yet. There's too many idiots driving in Upstate NY. They routinely try to kill me when driving the Jeep Cherokee, can't imagine what they'd do to me on the bike. The back roads are prettier, anyway.[:)]

Hey, how come there's no smiley on a motorcycle?

Is there nothing you hold sacrosanct , nothing you deem so inviolable,  so hallowed in the pith of your marrow that you would ward it against the intransigent vilifications of those whose mealy mouthed mumblings resemble the pathetic whimpers of a mange ridden cur snapping and snarling at his betters ?

Wow!!!!!!!!!!

Relax Sunshine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been riding Harleys all my life and am part of what gets termed the "biker lifestyle".  Unfortunately there are people like you who get caught up in the hype of a lot of the bullshit magazines like "Easyriders" that try to portray riding a fucking motorcycle as some kind of glorious, patriotic, awe-inspiring event.

Just ride and party and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Knowing twicehappy2x very well personally, I just have to say that she is definitely not one of those people who gets "caught up" in Easyriders hype....she is the very reason that magazines like Easyriders and other magazines geared to motorcyclists have a topic to write about in the first place. Her late Master was one of the founding members of the Hell's Angels, she is an accomplished champion hare scramble rider and she lives in a home where all who live there ride their own. She has worked all of her life to organize and run motorcycling events. There is not a day of her life that motorcycles are not a part of.

(Sorry twice, hope I didn't overstep...)

Dear rule, "people like me?"

I do not now nor have i ever subscribed to Easyriders, though i've been in it a few times.

I started racing dirt at 12, on the ice at 14, and riding on the street at 16. At 44 i still run the occasional Scramble or Enduro and hit the blacktop whenever possible.

I've been a biker's old lady/subbie in both prior collars, both of them passed away, both were 30+ years older than i, and i am currently collared to another biker.

I turn a wrench here and there for fun, polish 'em because to me they are works of art, and i've even built two bikes of my own.

I've been an AMA member for over 26 years and a licensed motorcycle safety instructor for 17 years for both dirt and street, yet i've never charged a penny for lessons. I do it to teach the love of riding to any and all who want to learn.

I've taught everybody from five year olds to fifty year olds. When i was done they understood safety first, how to check out their ride before taking off,  wear proper gear for what you are riding and look out for the other guy.

When i was a broken abused child it was Bikers who took me in, Bikers who taught me to trust again, Bikers who gave me the strength to be myself and be proud of it, it was a Biker who taught me how to love again. And most recently when my heart had grown cold and weary of life without my partner, it was a Biker and his Lady wife who rekindled my joy in all this world has to offer those who live in it.

Of course it is about fun. But it is also about brotherhood, about always knowing somebody has got your back.

Does the sound of rolling thunder make me stand straight with pride? Do i find the sight of a couple hundred bikes coming down the road awe inspiring?

 Damn straight !

I know those people. I know what they do, what they have done and still do to contribute to this country, to the needy, to protect children.

I am one of those people and fucking proud of it.

So for those of you who wish to yammer it's all hype, please feel free. Hope you never need anything from any of the many charitable organizations run by or funded by bikers. I've said it before and i'll say it again;

If I have to explain, you'll never understand.

For those of who know, well, no explanation needed.

Everything you said is all well and good, for you. But you can no more generalize that all bikers are "angels" than anyone else could generalize that all bikers are "thuggish scumbags."

The simple truth is there's a limitless variety of people whether their ride has two wheels, 4 wheels, 6 wheels or 18 wheels.

There's the biker who would give you the shirt off his back and there's one that will stab your for yours.

There's the trucker that obeys every law on the road and will help the cops slow down a speeding felon and there's the trucker that tries to make that red light while hauling a load of rocks and ends up creaming the mother of 2, utterly destroying her vehicle and her in the process.

There's the car driver who just relaxes and cruises and then there's the idiot ricer who tries to race any car foolish enough to get next to him on the freeway.

There are pilots who've never had so much as an emergency situation in the air, and then there are pilots who show up for their flight still drunk from the party the night before.

Generalizations are very......ummmm general, as was the original post here. When generalizations are made by one, you have to understand people make generalizations the other way. It's just the way it goes.

I think by now, at page 9 in the thread, we can all agree not all bikers are bad. I've known many. And some I've known are the wise, cruiser type, some are quite the opposite.

I have no good ending for this train of thought, so in the words of George Carlin, I simply take a small bow. [sm=applause.gif]

Why do you need their approval any way?

I don't, that's why I have the Honda. But being a newbie, sometimes it would be nice to just fit in. Kinda like on CM.

Moloch -> RE: the biker (4/30/2008 3:31:33 PM)

There are several huge honda shadow message boards. Im sure you can find locals there that get together for group rides etc..
There is also the Honda owners association.
