She left him?! Tied, breathing restricted, and she left him alone? I don't care if it was 20 minutes, at that point, it's irresponsible, and she should absolutely be on trial for this.

At 20 HOURS, it sounds more like she was checking to be sure he was really, really dead.

Um. Yes. Poor phrasing on my part. Should have added "Let alone 20 hours." I meant that it would have been irresponsible even had she only left him for twenty minutes.

Carry on.

Last month at KinkFest 2008 (Portland, OR, www.kinkfest.org), Jay Wiseman presented a panel on BDSM Blunders, Bloopers, and Disasters. One of the major points he made up front—from his research (he's writing another book on this topic) and his decades of experience as a player, first responder, and expert witness—was very succinct:
75% of all BDSM-related emergency room visits involve a combination of two things: a) bondage and b) being left alone.

Unmonitored bondage qualifies anyone for a Darwin award. (Unfortunately, all too often Darwin-award candidates have NOT prevented reproduction, they've merely orphaned a kid or kids.)

Look at the trouble those cops are in, leaving a handcuffed woman alone long enough to strangle herself! One need not be drunk or impaired or depressed...sneezes and clumsiness could put someone's life at an end that way.
