I know I've touched on this before, but:

If anyone in the UK (or outside of there) knows of someone I could talk to, even just for networking purposes to find a job, please let me know! I'm open to anywhere within the UK although my preference is the Birmingham/Manchester area.

Status: offline 		yep, Level..it was.  And I  found nothing about it I didn't like (well, except for the USD to GBP exchange rate, but cant blame the Brits for that..LOL).

it's long been a dream of mine to live overseas... and the plus side of the UK is I don't have to learn a new language! LOL

What would work for GT is it'd be wonderful to find an intro to someone where she could say "Hi ... my friend [insert name here] suggested you might be able to advise me; he/she said you knew a lot about the UK employment market/UK hotel market and I wonder if you could give me a little advice on that".

So [insert name here], it's not asking if you know someone who could offer a job - it's if you know anyone who is even remotely connected to employment or HR or the hotel industry where you could say to them "Hi - I've a friend who needs advice and I straight away thought of you. Would it be OK if I gave her your name? So she can get a little guidance from someone who understand this stuff".  Nice and non-threatening for them, a compliment from you to them too, and a starting point for GT.

Status: offline 		Hmm...That's a very tricky one, Greedy. I know a lot of care workers, who previously had little to no experience in that field, were only given visas to stay/work in the UK b/c they were students (albeit mature students), so that might be one area for you to consider. They have to study, I believe, for a minimum of sixteen hours per week to qualify.

Otherwise, you are going to have to convince an employer, and he immigration, why it is you are better qualified to fill a position in the UK than a british national.

Status: offline 		Check www.gumtree.com.  I was looking for a job there last year.  Also search on phrases such as Birmingham jobs.  I recommend going through an agency to help you.  I was interviewed at several and they are very helpful.

Status: offline 		I'm great, thanks for asking, cutie. Just heard back from a gorgeous couple from this site I met approx. ten days ago and who have just gotten back from their honeymoon, so looking forward to catching up with them soon!

Back to the job hunt though, is perhaps studying something you would be interested in doing, i.e, working/studying? That would be a fairly easy/common route for many wanting to stay in the UK.

Status: offline 		I've noticed that there is Schiller Univ. in London..they offer a course in hotel mgmt.  Problem is I'm not sure I could swing the tuition/student loans (if I even qualified)

Status: offline 		Some employers will be happy to sponsor/pay for tuition provided you are working/studying exclusively for them and will work for them once you qualify, so that's something worth looking into also.

Status: offline 		I would be more inclined to contact some of those agencies and ask them which fields of employment would be your best route for getting an employer to either pay all of your tuition while working for them, or certainly part of it. I know the legal profession is one area, which is my career path, and there will be others.

Status: offline 		We have something called the jobcentreplus, but I doubt it caters for people outside the EU, Christine.

Quite a few years ago now and when I was engaged to a guy in the US, we were looking at ways in which I could relocate to there, or he to the UK, so we encountered the same problems initially. I could have gone on over on something called a Fiance's Visa, but we didn't want to rush into something that quickly as it only gives a couple a three month window of 'opportunity'.

Status: offline 		The problem is, Christine, that there is a mandate to hire from within the EU, unless the job can't be filled without going outside of it.  In order to go around that mandate, the employer has to justify - to immigrations satisfaction - their reasoning for doing so.

MissM...  my background is mostly useless for the purposes of getting a job there, except for the hotel thing.  *sigh*

I'm taking all the advice here, and checking links and such, to heart.  I understand that I have to be patient.. much as I find that difficult to do..

Networking can be tough LOL  *hugs* to all!

Status: offline 		Stay optimistic, hon and I know how difficult it is to remain patient. You are looked on more favourably by immigration the more visits to the UK you have taken, so save up, organise another trip over here asap, build friendships/acquaintanceships so that people can be used as references for you should you need that (Professional persons are considered more credible referees, such as doctors, nurses, solicitors, accountants etc...).

I'm not able to search at the moment as I'm about to head offline, but there are websites to help people such as yourself who wish to relocate to antoher country, so they give advice regarding visas, jobs, accommodation, what requirements are needed, etc...

Good luck with that (hugs).
