Status: offline 		Is "consentual" a word?  Does is have a special meaning to BDSM that I'm unaware of?  I always thought it was spelled "consensual."  Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but I'm confused.

In BDSM context, if you hurt someone, you generally want it to be "consentual". Otherwise, you may run into issues of morality, and the police.

Status: offline 		It doesn't really seem like a big issue, a few spelling errors here and there is fine, it's only when messages are obviously not thought out or hard to understand that it becomes a problem. I think classifying people as 'not knowing how to spell' just because they mess up on a commonly misspelled word is a bit harsh. But that is just my .02$

At the site http://www.thefreedictionary.com/ all I got was:  Word not found in the Dictionary and Encyclopedia. Did you mean:

Status: offline 		It is odd that the spelling changes from the final t to a s when you change it's form. I think that's why it's so commonly spelled wrong, simply because we're accustomed to having a final t in consent. English is a very confusing language in so many ways.

Yes.  I just checked my three-inch-thick (you need to know that, 'cause size DOES matter) Unabridged Random House/Webster's Dictionary and it gives both; though I've rarely seen it spelled with a "t."

Edited to add: if someone would like to buy me the complete Oxford English Dictionary, I might be willing to reconsider my aversion to the concept of "tribute."

*lol* When I type consentual in Word, it gets that wavy red line under it. Consensual is accepted. I've always spelled it consensual, but it may be because I've read a lot of British books. [shrug]

Yes, English is a very confusing language, and there are spellings, word usages, and even punctuation styles (see the Oxford comma in this sentence?) that have caused debate and even argument down the years. I have learned to shrug off things - what can't be cured must be endured.

Add My name to that list, too.  I'd be willing to consider doing lots of things in exchange for the complete OED.

ETA that I prefer "consensual" because it literally means to think the same, as in "consensus".  It refers to complete agreement, not mere consent.  But that's just Me.  To each his own.
