Sams is owned by walmart

CarrieO -> RE: Theories: What would Wal-mart Kink be? (4/29/2008 6:04:46 AM)

PriceClub is now Costco.  Sam's is owned by Walmart.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/17/business/yourmoney/17costco.html?ei=5090&en=8b3103305fea6d68&ex=1279252800&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=all

They're all "big box" chains.   My local hardware store has some neat stuff.

"Wal-mart would have a bunch of crap from China that needed to be recalled for Lead paint "  ChainedExistence summed it up nicely.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Theories: What would Wal-mart Kink be? (4/29/2008 6:05:18 AM)

We don't have PriceClub here..... never even heard of it. [sm=confused.gif]  Bummer.

No kidding.  I won't shop at Walmart.

Wow, just like that? Someone says on a forum that Wal-mart would have a bunch of crap from China that needed to be recalled for Lead paint and just like that, you stop shopping Walmart...?

We have a choice here of the Big Box Wholesale clubs.

We can shop SAMS or BJ's..you gotta love the latter if only for the mental image of how they are going to suck your money out of you.

BlackPhx -> RE: Theories: What would Wal-mart Kink be? (4/29/2008 6:23:49 AM)

I'm with you on this one MoGa...

Lead paint and contaminated foods from China have been found in every store from Wal-mart to Mom and Pop or the Dollar Store or Walgreens, etc. Frankly I just figure they are trying to dumb us down further through lead poisoning so they can take over.

Read your labels, make your choices wisely to support US firms, but also take into consideration why our companies are in the positions they are. I own a car made by Pontiac, it is the ONLY car they have out that gives comperable gas mileage to the Asian cars. They do not advertise the car (The Vibe 29-32 mpg) but instead advertise the cars (Sports and SUV's) that get 15 mpg and then lament that they are losing the American car dollar to Honda, Kia et al. When I am paying nearly $4.00 at the pump I am happy to be able to go 32 miles on one gallon, it got me home from the airport one morning when Master was too sleepy to remember we needed gas. I made it all the way at highway speeds to the gas station. 35 miles and I have space to carry anything including 8 ft boards.

As for Wal-Mart, they try and save a buck where ever they can and pass those savings on. Yes they buy from China, but so does Target, Walgreens, CVS,  Toys-R-Us, you name it. If you want to support American, then Buy American Products and buy Stock in American Companies. Don't limit where you shop, it doesn't do any good.

So, I was pondering what it'd be like if Wal-Mart or a store LIKE it decided to start selling Sex toys, kink toys, or the like.  The fact that some sell Kama Sutra supplies already aside, what would they sell?  What stars would come out with their own line?  What kind of blue-light specials would they have?  Let's get our thinking caps on and brainstorm this out!

Last time I was in a Wal-Mart they had the condoms locked up, and only the manager could get them, after hours.  Soooo the closest Wal-Mart is getting to "blue light specialling" sex toys is 50% off electrical tape.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Theories: What would Wal-mart Kink be? (4/29/2008 7:35:28 AM)

Walmart is not "just like everyone else"!  Walmart forces manufacturers to open their books to them to see if they can find a way to force lower prices.  How do you force lower prices in China?  Younger workers and lower safety standards.  Walmart is insidious and those who don't think so aren't paying attention.

Oh, and Priceclub is the old name for what is now Costco.

I definitely support US firms when it comes to autos. I have only owned Chevrolet and will continue to do so. I drive a Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with the 6.6L Duramax diesel and this thing can be a gas hog if you are not careful. But with a soft foot and knowhow to squeeze through the stop and go traffic without having to constantly stop, i have bumped my MPG from 15 City to 18-19 City with up to 24 on the highway. I am considering converting to SVO (straight vegetable oil) with my truck because i can get free cooking oil from local restraints and my campus cafeteria. Some folks have been able to get 1000 miles per 15 gallon tank of diesel while running SVO in a secondary tank. Sounds promising to me. But it is definitely important to read labels carefully and know what you are getting yourself into. Chevrolet is developing a diesel-electric hybrid........ sounds very interesting, a full size truck getting over 30MPG city, now that is something i would love to see.

Fast reply.

I pay more for the privilege of buying non chinese goods from companies that back american workers.

On a brighter note, did you know that a big part of current gas prices is from chinese prosperity? They no longer pedal everywhere on thier little bikes-millions more of them can now afford to own cars. Cars that YOU, who buy cheap chinese crap have funded. Cars that take gas out of YOUR market.

Way to go!

If you desire to support american business or UK, or *insert country where you are here* then go and buy produce directly from local farmers and support your local business in your local high street and not the price fixing , 'cheap' - out of town centre - supermarkets.

Just friendly and more considered advice.

walmart is evil plain and simple , i would not shop there is everything in the joint was a nickle .It has nothing to do with low pices as why you should never step foot in the door . Go seek out the walmart DVD and it shall give you a small idea of why not to go near it .

WalterRego -> RE: Theories: What would Wal-mart Kink be? (4/29/2008 8:24:20 AM)

If kink were sold at Costco would that mean we had to buy  2 shrink-wrapped 5 gallon jars of lube? (might work better for fisting).
Would they offer samples in the aisles?
Would I have to stand in a 20 person deep check out line, and get checked out by all the people shopping for Kirkland socks?
Would they have Spring specials on outdoor bondage gazebos?
Would they have a woman at the door to take my register receipt and check off each of my sets of cuffs, floggers, and gross boxes of nipple clamps?
Could I get a date that way?

[:D]..........Thank you!  Imagine lining up for those samples!  Atleast you wouldn't have to fight your way through the pack of screaming kids looking for sweet samples....just adults looking at each other with raised eyebrows!

It sounded to me like ownedgirlie already was aware of the WalMart practices and was merely agreeing, as in she already does not shop at Walmart.  Could be wrong, but that is how I read it.  We will have to wait for her updated reply[;)]

Have to agree with SM and the others tho, walmart doesn't just sell an abundance of poorly made cheap plastic shit, there labor practices here and globally are atrocious.
Sure, it costs a little more to but locally, or american made, but in the long run, you know, thinking of the bigger picture, it costs far less.

Whatever in the world gave you the idea that my decision was made from that post?  I haven't shopped at Walmart for years, based on their business practices.  Hence my comment, "I won't shop at Walmart."

Don't shake that head too hard, you might get dizzy.  [;)]

Yes, Aynne, you read me correctly.

Walmart has a history of forcing companies to sell at lower prices than they can afford.  They are the biggest distrubutor of goods in this country, and companies who can not sell through Walmart suffer in their competition for sales in this country.  Since most companies can not afford to manufacture goods in this country and still meet Walmarts pricing requirements, they move their manufacturing to offshore, as cheaply as possible.  We see so many people complaining that American jobs are being given away, but anyone who shops there is supporting this business practice.

Don't believe me?  Google Rubbermaid / Walmart and see what you find.  They almost took Rubbermaid off the map.  Walmart pretty much makes the rules in this country on retail practices.  If anyone wants to shake their heads in amazement, shake it at Walmart, not at someone who wishes to shop according to conscious.

Thanks, Aynne, for posting the Walmart link, and for thinking through enough to know I wouldn't make decisions based on a sarcastic comment on a BDSM board.  [;)]

ChainedExistence -> RE: Theories: What would Wal-mart Kink be? (4/29/2008 9:16:06 AM)

And actually I never said I refuse to shop there anyway....I do..once in a blue moon...but 999 out of 1000..I shop elsewhere. It's not as much about their  business practices as it is about their stores- the way they put merchandise on the shelves, the slow turn-over of goods, the way it's arranged. I generally don't like any kind of huge store- I find them overwhelming, and impersonal.  WalMart has been catching hell left and right for all their toy recalls...and I figured, they like cheap...of course, they'd have their buyers looking for the least expensive adult toys as well. No great jump to assume that.

And edited to add...I'm not here to convince anyone of anything. Personally I'd rather see different points of view.
