GreedyTop -> Favorite cover tunes (4/28/2008 10:53:20 PM)

There are some really great songs in the world. Sometimes, the original artist does a version that can NOT be matched, regardless of who does it.  Sometimes, another artist will cover it, and put the original to shame.

Some of my favorites:
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Dream a little dream - The Beautiful South
Life in a Northern Town - The Beautiful South

There will be others, but this is to start :)

Sweet Dreams by Marylyn Manson

Most of Holly Cole's covers beat the original.  Two that are outstanding:  "I can see clearly now"  and "Losing my Mind" (the Sondheim song).

Well, White Rabbit already got a mention, but there is also a speed metal cover by Sanctuary that was a bit of fun.

What Korn did with Another Brick in the Wall 1-3 was interesting, but nowhere near as good as the original.

SteelofUtah -> RE: Favorite cover tunes (4/29/2008 12:55:39 PM)

AWSOME SO FAR

Here are a few to think about

Joss Stone re did Under Pressure and although at first I was all ready to talk shit it was a GREAT cover cause she put a different spin on it
Eric Clapton got FAMOUS (like more than he was) by covers such as Cocaine, I shot the sheriff, and Wonderful Tonight
Tainted Love by Soft Cell is actually a Cover of Gloria Jones
Elvis Presley Covered MOST of his work, Blue Suede Shoes and Hound dog most of his songs were Black Performer songs that he did and made famous.
Sinead O'Conners Nothing Compares to you is a Prince Cover and most people didn't know prince ever even did it
Nearly HALF of the songs Bob Dylan Wrote were made famous by OTHER People (Watchtower, Mr Tambourine man, Etc,etc)
Aretha Franklin's cover of "Respect", originally done by Otis Redding.
Blinded by the Light made famous by Manfred Mann's Earth Band was actually written by Bruce Springsteen
Come on feel the Noize by Quiet Riot was originally done by Slade and mosty people I know never even heard of them.

The POINT of this is MUCH of what we take as the original is just reconstituted recycles Old stuff.

Enjoy

GOOD THREAD

Steel
