Although its probably cheaper than seeing a shrink or some other mental health professional, BDSM as therapy strikes me as wrong.  I'm curious to learn if it is just a quick fix that happens or is there actual long term resolution of one's problems.   How did pop psychology and spiritualism get tangled up with BDSM? (I blame the internet but don't really know for sure.)  What's next Chicken Soup For the Pervert's Soul?  Sorry for the disjointed post. (I blame the internet.) Good food for thought though - thanks.

There's a difference between a coping technique and suppressing whatever it is that you're avoiding with something else. Exercise can be a coping technique to reduce stress...but it can also be used as a way to make you maintain an anorexic body, suppressing your body image issues. BDSM can be the same kind of things...it's all in how you use it.

BDSM like many things is what it is to the practitioner, there is no right or wrong way. Some do it for the fun of it, some for a variation on the mundane and some use it as a tool to learn, perhaps release. BDSM in some of it's forms has since perhaps the dawn of mankind been used in a spiritual way, it is nothing new. The  abbreviation BDSM might be new, but certainly not some of the practices contained under that umbrella term.

I'm always amazed at what people can connect to an endporphin rush.

I dunno ... perhaps it is an endorphin rush.  I haven't experienced that, outside of an 'exercise high' and I'm not sure I'd identify it as such.  Either way, it's powerful and feels cleansing and connects me with Master.  I'm not too concerned with labels - I just like to experience and am pleased with the outcome, as is he.
