EmeraldSlave2 -> Newbie Packets? (10/14/2005 12:52:27 PM)

Are those newbie packet emails still being shuffled around to the poor novice subs? They usually have a handful of links and essays to the very fluffy/trite "It's all ok, you're still in control" type sites?

Those things were the worst sort of dogma and propaganda and I think it led to a lot of wronged expectations. They were all the rage when I first got into things a few years ago and was just wondering if anything has changed?

I don't know anything about that. But I would like to see what was written.

NakedOnMyChain -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/14/2005 1:41:42 PM)

I haven't heard that any of my newbie friends have seen or received anything like that. I'll keep y'all posted if anything comes up, though.

ownedjulia -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/14/2005 1:47:35 PM)

i've been around for a few years and never seen one.

I have seen what you're referring to on one site, emerald, just the other day.
You succinctly captured the tone of the ones I saw.

i haven't seen or heard of such a thing.

fiddlegirl -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/14/2005 3:25:17 PM)

Here's a link to a "newbie pack":Wizdomme newbie pack

KittenWithaTwist -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/14/2005 5:20:36 PM)

Come on, that stuff has been out there for years and as more and more interest in WISTWD proliferates it will only help in the survival of the fittest. Don't knock it. All endeavours have the excessive proponents, just think...golf....hockey....gardening.... bird watching you get the idea. Anyone who really gets the desire will sort out the shit from shineola so don't sweat the small stuff. Nature has a way of sorting out the good the bad and the ugly.

I never got one and I haven't been on here very long!

Never heard of them. I'm sure I would have found them biased, condescending, and extremely boring.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/16/2005 11:51:34 AM)

There's a lot of hand-wringing about stuff like this. I mean, I agree with everyone else that a newbie packet is nauseating. But people are responsible for their own choices. If a newbie reads a newbie packet and decides to adhere to everything in it, that's the newbie's decision.

TexasMaam -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/16/2005 5:58:04 PM)

I disagree. Of course, I've never received a 'newbie packet', but the Wizdomme site didn't have any material for a true newbie that seemed offensive or out of line in any way.

I think it's great that newcomers learning of the lifestyle online can read and research links and information; I certainly wish We'd had such resources 25 years ago. I'd have delighted in a potential newbie sub that had taken the time to read and research some of the online material. It's better than the hogwash that was available at adult bookstores back in the late 60' through 70's! (Yeah, I'm old, and I'm dating Myself here...)

If the site is insipid or boring to those with experience, it will be to the newbie, as well, over time.

Surely a newbie who has sense enough to read has sense enough to decide whether a link or an idea is of interest to them and can filter the rest to the circular file or delete bin.

No harm, no foul.

Texas Maam

I've never seen or heard of anything like that. It does sound rather odd.

There's a nice bunch of reference links at this site:

sinbetweens -> RE: Newbie Packets? (10/16/2005 10:57:37 PM)

I actually just brought out a new sub, and one of his friends emailed him an essay along those lines. He read it but didn't find it very useful or relevent. He forwarded me the message, and on one hand I can understand that there are some lessons a sub needs to encounter from the very beginning.

But any Dom/me that isn't teaching him these things through experience shouldn't be allowed control, and I wouldn't imagine most subs being able to trust a Dominant like that. Furthermore, they mostly said things along the lines of "it's okay to have these desires!" It was very vague, fluffy, apologetic, and seemed to barely brush into the real issues a newbie would encounter.

I deleted the email because I couldn't imagine it ever being particularly useful to anyone. Otherwise I'd be delighted to quote some of it, heh.

I was a newbie before the internet was around. Never seen such spam or a site.

Where are they?

mnottertail -> RE: Newbie Packets? (11/10/2005 9:33:16 PM)

I occasionally ship a list of links to websites to newbies. Not all dom stuff and not all sub stuff......... the essay is this.

Perhaps you will find these sites informational:

List of sites.

Happy Hunting,
Ron

The really serious essays are saved for you all my loves on the boards.

LOL,
Ron
