"Drinking dulls the brain's response to threats"
Wed Apr 30, 2008 2:00pm EDT
"CHICAGO (Reuters) - Drinking alcohol dulls the brain's ability to detect threats, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday in a study that helps explain why people who are drunk cannot tell when the guy at the end of the bar is angling for a fight.

They said the study is the first to show how alcohol affects the human brain as it responds to threats.

"You see this all of the time. People get into confrontations when they are intoxicated that they probably wouldn't get into when they are sober," said Jodi Gilman of the National Institutes on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, whose study appears in the Journal of Neuroscience."

Is there nothing so blindingly obvious that an "expert" carnt "discover" it ?
My greatest insight was to realise that drinking can make you drunk

There was no need to investigate that. The people here in The Netherlands have had Dutch courage for centuries. In fact a neighbour this evening told me how two drunk Dutch lads scared off an unarmed mugger that tried to rob him.

And the "study" indicated that drunkeness could even lead to risky behaviors like drunken driving.
No shit?
Wow, they've had the midnight oil burning at Jethro Bodine University.
And they said that there may be a possable "cure" for alcoholism.
Ah, there already is, it's called abstention.
Please tell me that none of our taxdollars were involved in this "study."

It's true Popeye. I  have done quite a bit of research (hic!) on this topic and my findings show that the more one drinks, the dumber one gets. [sm=buddies.gif]
