Status: offline 		You can never keep them from getting in. We get them from time to time, mice.

The main time is when the weather gets cold, in fact here this bit of a cold shift this spring brought us a few. So I heard about these things and decided to look it up on the web. Conflicting accounts of course. Of course any place that sells them says they are the best thing since sliced rice, or is that canned bread ?

But I see on a blog about it most people saying they do not work.

One company's site does sound interesting, because it outlines the limitations of these devices. There are no doubt other things invented over the years that would work but for whatever reason people could not use them correctly.

In theory it makes sense to me, it would be like a car alarm going off in your house all the time to rodents, in theory. The one claims to have a certain waveform that they do not get used to, unlike some others. They also refute other manufacturer's claims that they work on insects.

The units are not really expensive, and probably ten of them would do my whole house except for the attic. Maybe a few hundred bucks, but if it is a permanent solution I would do it.

I have heard of other methods purported to be permanent as well. Or pretty permanent, like bobcat urine. That seems to maybe make sense. I got a buddy that says if you burn a mouse in the basement of a house so it permeates all the way through, the smell will abate to the point where humans can't smell it, but mice can and they stay away. Another tells me if you have a cat for a long time some of it's scent gets into everything and there is a lasting effect, probably shorter, but even if the cat is gone they still smell it.

I don't know what is old Husband's tales and what is fact. But I really don't want to deal with anymore traps. I'll buy 50 of those things of it'll work.

Has anyone tried these devices ? Do they work or are they just a moneymaker for the company ? I don't mind spending the money for something that works, but if it doesn't I certainly do not want to waste it.

Anyone know ?

Status: offline 		I knew someone that had them.  They don't work.  Mice and rats are pretty clever creatures.  They find ways around things and they adapt quickly.  For rodent control, you can't beat a cat.  I have a cat, and I never have rodent problems.  I've had the same cat for 12 years, and I can count on one hand how many times I have seen a mouse in my abode.  Everytime I have seen one, it was when she had caught it.

Status: offline 		funny T,  I found 2 mice this past month.   One on a sticky trap- one in attic.  I thought maybe the bird food was bring them in.

a buddy in Bloomsburg says they work.  It probaly would harm the cat, and sleeper electric things can run up40% of electric bill. which leads me to this:

is a $44 energy saver  ceiling fan better then a $20 regular unit?  [lowes]


to ans the mice problem i like sticky traps.  for ants i like baking soda, flys the sticky strips.

Anyway the detached garage has mice and lots of them.  We tried the ultrasonic repellers.  The mice laughed at them literally.  Saw one crawling over the top of the repeller once.
Was it defective?  I don't know but it was brand new when we plugged it in.

Anyway  we got ourselves two outside/garage cats.  On average they catch a mouse or two a day.  The key seems to be get them while their young before they get fat and lazy and will make friends with the mice.

Or feed them less when you detect mice ,so they actually see mice as a part of thier diet. It always worked with the barn cats on the horse ranch.

Personally, I just prefferred to leave bucket traps for mice. split ramp with some peanut butter up at the end.  Used a slick tape at the point so they could not grab on. They run up and thier weight tilts the lath-dropping them into water over thier heads. It flips up again, and they cannot get out-and drown.

Status: offline 		Best method. Find an old milk crate, metal best, then cover in fine metal mesh so the birds and other unwanted critters do not get in, then leave gaps for only small mice to get in.
Add several spring traps, small and large, then add bait.

Well who is going to come empty the bucket with the dead mice in it?  Hmm....certainly not me.  I don't do mice.
