If a prospective partner has a screwed up life, his/her friends have screwed up lives too. If you give the person the benefit of the doubt, and you miraculously avoid getting sucked into his/her shit, their friends' shit will spatter ya anyway. So when someone has a really fucked up life, show no mercy. Stay away.

Whaddya think?

After more than 20 years of bringing home stray peop[le and trying to help them fix their screwed-up lives, I've finally reached a point where I've decided that folks have to fix themselves. I would say that your axiom is dead on.

I agree completely, but there is a line between being emotionally healthy enough to avoid drama, and being a kind/considerate and generous human being toward fellow humans because we all have screwed up days at one point or another, and if not for the kindness of family, lovers or friends, we may never see a bright day again.
Hope that made sense, and welcome to the boards. M

I have a corrolary to this axiom:
If you have a partner and notice that the partner's friends are all fucked up, then your partner is also fucked up and has just hidden it from you so far or you've made the mistake of explaining it away. BEWARE! RUN FOR THE HILLS!

I've been affiliated with organizations such as AmtGard, SCA, and The Camarilla. All having politcal BS Drama. I've been in relationships where the other would call me atleast 5 times a day to talk about every problem that poped up. I ended up going "I love you but I also have a life and other things to take care of. Call me when it's important instead of whinny snip bits" CLICK! As for the others I learn the rule and saying "SAVE THE DRAMA FOR YOUR MAMA!"

Old habits die hard. You never want to write someone off if they moved on in their life, but at the same time you can not make someone want to change. As Ronald Regain used to say of the Russian, "trust but verify". That seems to be sound advice.

We're all fucked up. We all have fucked-up lives. Shit happens. Before you attack the fucked-up lives of your prospective partner's friends, take a gander at your own fucked-up friends. How proud are you to force your partner into affiliation with them?

My alternate-axiom: don't poop where you screw.

Edited because I lose my train of thought.

While most of us can, at some point or another, use some help, my experience is that unless someone asks for help, all the advise or help in the world isn't going to work -- and even then sometimes it won't work. I like to think of myself as a good listener, and more than willing to help, but I don't stick my head in a knoose anymore thana I have to. ... Well, not too much anyway..lol

cheers
jimini
