Termyn8or -> God damn America ? (5/1/2008 11:23:30 AM)

I've been doing some thinking about that statement. I know that is dangerous for one such as I, but somebody has to do it.

Seeing all these posts, I have noticed something, and it is not just here. There is a dominance of anti-government [action] posts everywhere you look on the internet. So many people are coming to the opinion that this country has lost it's way, and even to the conclusion that some of these actions are immoral and criminal. We see more and more of it almost every day.

Now I am a realist. For those who know I am a self admitted racist, you also know MY definition of the word and you know it does not match YOUR definition of the word. I don't know what to call it, racialism doesn't work, nationalism doesn't work, but I am not a bigot of any sort. What I describe is a connection to my race and my roots, and as such I realize that I have certain preferences, prejudices and thought patterns because of my lineage and background. To not recognize this would be ignorant.

As such though, I balance such tendencies out with rational thought. Now there are going to be X amount of people who vote. And there are certain types.

One type will vote for their own favor, and these are a fairly large block. We each want to vote ourself a better life. But some see the whole thing differently.

I think most people with a brain would want to vote for someone who will stop this insane spending and start trying to get the deficit down so eventually we can enjoy lower taxes. That would be hard to argue against.

There are other contingents of the population though. I have known people on welfare, not now but in the past. What they were talking about was "I'm voting for _______ because he'll give us more". But then senior Citizens who worked all their life who live on a pension might vote the same way, but for different reasons. They want back the money they earned. They got duped into social security and know if they had just invested the money themselves they would be better off. I don't blame them.

Then there are the young gunghos who will vote republican because they think it is time to go in and kick Iran's ass.

Then there will be those who vote along racial lines. Yup, they will decry racism but if Black, Obama is their Man, if female (same thing different group) they will vote for Hillary. And then there a plenty of people who can't stand either. Then for them it is McCain or abstain.

I detest the way they run this show, it's not even a popularity contest these days. It almost seems like a stupidity contest, for us.

Actually of three I would take Obama. That may surprise you, but yup, even in light of all this shit with the preacher, he is probably the best choice out of the three. Ron Paul ? Love to see it but it just isn't practical and who else is there ?

And someone mentioned Obama getting sworn in with his hand on the Koran. Now wait a minute, Judeo-Christianity was carefully avoided in the Constitution for a reason. "Endowed by their CREATOR". If the Koran is the book in which he believes, doesn't it make sense to have him swear on that ? The oath is proscibed and will not be changed, he WILL swear allegiance to this country at that point.

And the pledge of allegience to the flag is a non issue to me. I read the words before reciting them, and refused. This is a flag, a piece of cloth. I have allegience to the country, but not the cloth.

Just for the record, let me give you my oath :

I pledge allegience to the cause
of the people of my country
for their wealth and health
humanity and sanity

Me.

But what is your country Mr. Obama ? Yes that can be asked and is a valid question.

But then ask it of the other candidates. All three of them are liars, cheats and crooks. Take your pick. I'll take the Black one.

This all may sound like a racial or anti-racial thing but it is not. When this guy was first coming out I was impressed by some of the things he said. Fuck the preacher, I don't care. And I don't care if he refuses to adorn himself with the flag, that is ridiculous.

And on the flipside of that last statement, here's a guy running for fucking President, and he holds true to his ideas of this. What does that say about him ? He will not go against his personal beliefs even to achieve [what is erroneously called] the highest office on the planet.

Think about that.

Term, Hillary's certainly starting to shape up to be "the one in the middle", isn't she?
To the right of Obama and to the left of McCain!
A very wise move me thinks.
Obama is just too far to the left.
He's unelectable.

Ignorance isn't an excuse for stupidity.

Obama is NOT A MUSLIM. This is why he's up shit creek with Rev. Wright. He does not believe in the Koran.

If he was a Muslim, this campaign to drag his name in the mud would have an inkling of a factual backdrop. But he is NOT A MUSLIM. Don't you get tired of the lies?

subfever -> RE: God damn America ? (5/1/2008 11:44:54 AM)

I fail to see how "God Damn America" equates to an OP conclusion to recommend Obama.

LadyEllen -> RE: God damn America ? (5/1/2008 11:45:31 AM)

At least we're getting closer to the real issue KS; first it was "he's a Muslim", now its "his former pastor is a black radical".

Of course, no one would dare say it, but I think I know the real reason for all the attacks. And I think I know his fate should he get the nomination - Hilary will be the candidate by default, once the funeral is done.

Long as we're truncating quotes and taking them out of context, what he really said was "God damn."

hlen5 -> RE: God damn America ? (5/1/2008 11:50:24 AM)

I got an email talking about Obama taking an oath on the Koran and went to Snopes. They reported it never happened. I'm disgusted with the Dems. A year ago it looked like the next Pres would be a democrat. I don't know how well either O or H will stand against McCain.

kittinSol -> RE: God damn America ? (5/1/2008 11:50:59 AM)

I fear you may be correct, LadyE. And we all know the reasons behind the disinformation campaign orchestrated against Obama. He is a black man.

The worse thing is that those who rabidly attack him don't even have the guts to admit to the fact that this is why they're after him in the first place. Cowards and hypocrites.

Frankly, I feel increasingly sickened by the circus: it's all very, very fucked up. And the electorate falls for it! It's despairworthy.

This barely matters...

We are already looking at a contest between three corporate whores. One is only barely more idiotic than the other two.

Left, center, right? You guys have got to be kidding...

[8|]

Yet again, it almost doesn't matter who you vote for, but if Obama is the left he'll get my vote. Center and Right have fucked the country over in various ways for going on 16 years now.

Where is the person who will rebuild the robust middle-class that we need?
Where is the person who will create universal healthcare out of the current mess that we are in?
Where is the person who will get us out of Iraq and maybe Afghanistan too?
Where is the person who will develop a sane foreign diplomacy policy?
Where is the person who will create jobs, reform education, and put the U.S. near the top again?
Where is the person who will reform the monetary system and make a ferocious pit-bull out of the FTC?
Where is the person who will reign in our corporations and send the multinationals to the devil?
Where is the person who will eliminate all of these bullshit trade agreements that fuck over the middle-class?
Where is the person who will help individual (not corporate) farmers?
Where is the person who will bring back manufacturing?
Where is the person who will reform our energy policy and leave out the current players?
Where is the person who will secure this nation from the need to rely on foreign sources for anything?

And yes, I could go on and on. We are so fucked politically that we can't even see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The person I seek is none of the above.

P.S. Sorry Utopian, but Ron Paul is just a freak.

No he is an unqualified man, who obtained his present status by using the black community in Chicago, who happens to be half black.

Get over it. The Presidential election shouldn't be an EEO/AA hire.

Yes, I inadvertently truncated Term's subject title quote by leaving off the question mark

So, you're saying that "God Damn America?" =  "God Damn."

I suppose it could mean that... though I find it interesting that you would were so eager to interpret Term's meaning, and speak on his behalf.

You just confirmed what I said, Merc.

What?!!! "Using the black community"? How? What? When? How divisive and patronising can you get?

You suddenly invoke his supposed lack of qualifications when until now, you have been ranting about little else than his association with Wright.

So, you can keep on adding stuff to your list of reasons to participate in a smear campaign - it's entirely your prerogative. It makes you look increasingly unconvincing though.

It's not about you. Get over yourself.

Wright said, "God damn America for...". Notice the preposition? "God damn America" is completely dishonest. Get the point now?

cjan -> RE: God damn America ? (5/1/2008 12:52:11 PM)

Churro, I believe the man you seek is, as I've posted before, currently living in New Jersey. His name is Bill Bradley and he has written books about how to face and overcome the challenges that face the U. S. He also has a website. He is however, unelectabe ,as was shown in the 2000 Democratic presidential primaries. He's unelectable because, as Bradley ponts out, in the current two party system, only those candidates who are backed by powerful and wealthy special interests get a chance to run. Until we have basic, fundamental campaign financing reform and elections that are publicly funded, this situation will not change and we will all continue to just piss into the wind.

A reality, and an opinion shared by the Reverend and others in the 'community' know as the USA; black and white, per this quote:
quote:

Black leaders are getting nervous and personal against Obama while Governors, Mayors, Congressmen, and Senators (black and whites), like higher-ranked John Kerry [2004 prez candidate] are endorsing him. So, it's not about these leaders, but the American people.
People, America is Ready, some Black "leaders" just aren't.

The source? Senator Obama's campaign page: http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/franklinkatunda/CVhM

Feel free to disagree.

That is what you choose to believe, like many of your posts - it doesn't represent reality.
