How do you mean, 'post patriarchal'? Masculinity is overrated. It's too easy to equate it with chest thumping and macho posturing. Masculinity is the smell of leather and soap. Certainly strength and self-reliance are a part of that. Machoness can occasionally be a side-effect, as can a bent towards gallantry and dominance. I've known plenty of biologically female people in my time, many of whom identify as male, who are extremely masculine, moreso than most men I know. It's a frame of mind. It's a way of being. You don't have to be male to be masculine and you don't have to be masculine to be male.
