Masculinity is the smell of leather and soap. A lovely voice and a hard on.

Oh damn!  My seat's wet.

Masculinity, to me, is a man who is happy being a man, being the generally stronger, faster, hairier, more dominant gender.

This doesn't work for me because its not true in so many cases.

To the OP, to me masculine means a man who is comfortable in his own skin, living his life as he see's fit and not fitting into the tiny mold society would try to force them through.

I am impressed Lashra, you have a very good insight on what it means to be male. This society which we know,as past patrriachal, you do I feel understand the dilemma we as males are in. Maybe it is that those that hold onto the dinosaur belief that males should be something primative is just wrong in modern society.

I just have to ask, what you as females would like to see in the ogre that is supposed to be a man ?

If Kittensol you would like to see the ogre disappear, what would you have in it's place if a male you had to mould ?

My feeling is that there are definitely more and more chances for men to not necessarily be the testosterone filled caveman of centuries past. There are support groups for men where they can go and talk in a safe environment with other men, there are leadership and bonding groups where they get all touchy-feely with themselves and in my personal life I see a lot more women understanding and acknowledging that men have feelings too (gosh now that's a surprise) and that they need support and love and affection and hugs and all of the stuff that some women take for granted.  I do however still see a lot of men who hold on so rigidly to their beliefs that real men don't cry, don't ask for help etc.

Can only males exhibit masculinity?  If so, why not just describe something as "male" rather than use the term "masculine"?
