You are at the site that is the best, bar none.  www.tribe.net has a lot of real world bdsm groups on it but again, for discussion, this place is amazing.  Most online stuff isn't worth the electrons used to create it.

Read some of the real non fiction books out there like The Loving Dominat, Different Loving, or The Wild Side of Sex.

AveAboy -> RE: websites to learn from (5/3/2008 6:53:29 PM)

yeah and
alt.com
is a total scammy rip-off.

and the yahoo groups in general are totally lame-o

I havent found any sights that are worth anything, besides this one either.

Wasn't there a site dedicated to newbies and helping them along a safe and fullfilling path... I remember something about it from 10 years ago when I started.... castle relm (sp) or white shaddows or something like that....  I had it on my old PC but the new one is only a year old.....

you might consider publications by Jay Wiseman [very reputable]. Amongst other books, He wrote SM 101. Among the books by John Warren is one called The Loving Dominant. Another good book is Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns by Philip Miller and Molly Devon.

A good place to find Jay and my works is at the publisher's site www.greenerypress.com

CastleRealm is in disrepute, to say the least.  The site no longer functions, and a lawsuit stated that the slave Jade never existed.  Much of CastleRealm has been preserved in various archives, but I will not provide links because I don't trust the site and the authors.  You are best served by reading stuff by people who don't make shit up.

stormygirl25 -> RE: websites to learn from (5/3/2008 8:11:13 PM)

well this site doesnt really have articles just forums and im not really sure how to phrase my questions or my thoughts at this time to post anything that might make sense.

RedMagic1 -> RE: websites to learn from (5/3/2008 8:49:55 PM)

And reading books is a bad thing because......?

stormygirl25 -> RE: websites to learn from (5/3/2008 9:09:10 PM)

i never said its a bad thing i just dont have the cash to spend on em right now.

Maya2001 -> RE: websites to learn from (5/3/2008 9:52:19 PM)

A book about the lifestyle when your a newbie is a far better investment than a choker collar
Personally I would rather buy a book and learn, understand some of the concepts before hand instead  rushing into in a frenzy  thinking it is all fun and games as there is a possibility of getting hurt physically and emotionally, if I don't know what to expect and what can go wrong ...... and later on earn a  collar

www.vanilla-not.com

Collarme has some great resources and you can keep reading the postings for occasional links to other articles.

Try searching with more specific keywords on search engines because that always helps narrow things down for you.

Check bdsm directories for other good sites.

Watch bdsm movies like Exit to Eden and Mercy because they can be entertaining and educational.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Joy beat me to it. Jack Rinella, http://www.leatherviews.com/home.htm

I like his column here, "The Myth of the Old Guard"
http://www.leatherviews.com/kinkyinfo/9930.htm because it echoes my views pretty much. I think he and I are of similar ages. (not implying any other similarities) I think many of those who go on about "Old Guard Protocols" and whatnot should go back to worshipping Klingons at the Trekker conventions.

MaamJay -> RE: websites to learn from (5/4/2008 1:49:35 AM)

joy also beat Me to including SteelDoor! However, I would also recommend

I find "mistrust steele" to be a complete nutjob, have any of you actually read the crap she has on there?

Phin -> RE: websites to learn from (5/4/2008 5:18:35 AM)

one peice of advice I am suprised I have not seen: DO NOT LEARN FROM PORN that stuff is fictionalized over dramatized wank fodder, they are paid to take insane abuse.

I agree that you are on one of the best sites to learn from, if you are having problems asking questions, there are hundreds of pages of questions already posed in the "comunity discussions" section, it will keep you busy for months.

Dayum.  I flit back into the boards and find myself agreeing strongly with you twice!

Mistress Steel has, for example, put forward lies about the Old Guard use of collars.  Hippiekinkster did all newbies a big favor by giving a link to that myth article.  There is sooooooo much BS online, and in BDSM in general.  That's part of why people are suggesting these forums.  If someone says something, ah, lame, other people are willing to set the record straight.  Articles by "experts" with credentials you can't check are not worth too much.
