They are on moderation. For abusing or being abusive in the forums ( not sure if its email or chatrooms too ) and not listening to the mods when told to calm down.

The mods have to go though and ok the posts. Its often takes awhile for the mods to do it.

Hmmm. I always kind of assumed it was something like that. I didn't know that the mods had to go through and personally approve things like that, though. They have a high work volume, so I could imagine that it would take a bit for a post to be ok'ed. I'd always assumed that the "abusers" (if you will) had to wait a specific amount of time until they could post again. Ah well, I learn something new every day.

it seems that it's for emails as well as in the forums in at least one case that i know of.

i wouldnt even post if I had to await approval, as its very annoying, but more so, isnt it more annoying to the moderators that they have to approve every post?

I have to respect the moderators for this. After all, this is a free site. The site doesn't have any financial to keep people around and the simplist way to deal with a disruptive person would be to kick him or her right off. This gives those people a chance to redeem themselves.

My 2 cents...

Sometimes they just pull stuff they aren't sure that it should be allowed to be posted.

I'm sure being familiar with a poster, and knowing a poster's history also comes into play here. And sometimes the topic or post might be so open to interpretation that it isn't clear if it is inflammatory or not. I'd imagine most are pulled to be reviewed just to get a consensus and see if other mods feel it might be an issue than for any other reason.

I had an entire thread I started get pulled for review recently, and I don't find it irritating or even saying that I was wrong for posting it or even that it was bad. The post I made that I cut and pasted an actual news article about a certain christian organization has been pulled for review. The fact it was pulled doesn't mean I posted something bad or even that i need to redeem myself necessarily. After all I am confident that my past history here and all my previous posts show that I do not often post such things that are spiteful, hateful, or nasty. But I do and might post things that others might find "sensitive" or the responses might get out of hand due to the topic or subject matter.

I'm sure they will discuss it amongst themselves on whether or not something a journalist wrote and published, and the mission of that organization that is also echoed and stated on the organization's own website is okay to remain here on the boards or not.

It could also have been due to the un-PC jokes that were made (which I'd imagine were more the culprit than the actual initial cut and pasted post) in response to the first post, and I'd imagine if that some folks *might* take those responses *far* more seriously than they were meant to be taken.

I trust and hope that when they review it they will decide to remove the comments following the initial post that made it offensive if that was the reason it was pulled for review, but leave the actual first post as it WAS an actual news report, and those living in that state - ESPECIALLY perverts - ought to know and be informed what is planned for and might be happening in their state so that they can watch out for it and maybe help prevent that from occurring if they don't like it.

But in the end ... it's not my site. I personally would never censor an actual news report or something that was of fact because it might offend members of the same religious group. But I understand and respect that others might not feel the same way too, and it is their right to do so, whether or not I might personally agree with it. And I am okay with it. After all I *do* have other options to use to help inform folks that it's going on. I certainly wouldn't bother to get *angry* about it, I mean that's just life.

And I'm only using my experience with it as an example. Truth is I can't remember any other posts of mine that were ever pulled, for any reason offhand so it's the *only* example I have that I *could* think of lol, so please don't read more into that than that is there.

Moderating a site, and boards, especially one as busy as this one is, is indeed a large task. And I'm sure the members here do bring some pressure down on the mods too, by way of complaints. I'd imagine if enough folks complain about a post the process is to yank the post, discuss it amongst the mods, and then decide if it was really warrented or not and if they allow it to be made visible by non-mods again, the decision was made that pressure from the members on that isn't going to result in the post being removed permanently.

Least that's the process I'd want instilled for sites such as these.

But then that's just a guess lol.

Individuals are placed on Moderation for constantly ignoring TOS and forum Guidelines. This is for a set length of time, and the person involved are notified.Modifications have no baring whatsoever on emails and the forum is seperate from the Profile side of CM.

krikket -> RE: Awaiting Approval? (10/16/2005 12:42:00 PM)

i think that's the whole point..which is a shame that someone has pushed them into that position.

i doubt putting someone on what is basically a "time out" is an decision that the mods make easily, but it probably beats being kicked off the site completely. It's something the person on probation puts up with, so the system must be okay for them too. Years ago i ad a voluntary position similar to what the mods do here, and know it's a rewarding but thankless job..

:)

cheers
