yup. my dad died and i got back just in time for the funeral, last year. my grandpa is dying and probably won't make it through the weekend. i've been threatened with beatings of a maternal kind if i even THINK of feeling guilty and i spent what time i could with him when i was there.

but you just wanna be there before they go, yanno?

to get back to the cheering tone of the thread, one thing i've always remembered about my grandpa was he was bald as long as i remember. he used to tell me that grandma used to pluck out a hair every time she went by him. for years i thought she was so mean. than i grew up, and it occurred to me to wonder what he was doing to make her want to pull his hairs out!

I was at work the night I got the call about my Dad. *sigh* I am grateful, at least, that I had spoken to him a day or so before, and had the chance to say one last time that Iloved him. my regret there is that we were finally learning how to be parent/child friends... and I'll stop there, because I am pretty sure I went on about it here, back then.

omg, my grandparents.. what an odd couple! LOL My Granddad was a VERY spiritual person... devout Christian in ALL the best senses of the word.. (he walked the walk, didn't waste time talking the talk outside of his Sundays as a lay-preacher). My Grandmother, on the other hand...lol

Grandy (my granddad) was over 6' tall, slender as a willow. Grammers (grandma) was 5' tall and plump. A true Christian, and Grammers..LOL.. imagine this short, plump woman... sitting in front of the TV (tuned almost always to sports events) with a Marlboro in one hand, and a gin & tonic in the other... and omg.. if the game officials made a call she didn't like?? That woman would put a sailor's mouth to shame...LOL

I miss them....but I am grateful for the memories I have :)
