(fast reply) Greetings, I agree that the internet has definitely created contacts, helped many folks accept their choices as 'okay' and created a great place for the dissemination of ideas (how-to, safety, where-to, etc). That all being said ... there have been a few draw backs to being 'connected via cyberspace'. IMO, the internet does a great deal to isolate people from other people. I do not mean from folks online, because, after all, the online world is always there with the click of a switch, but from making real connections with people face to face. What is one of the greatest assets of the internet (always on) is also one of the greatest drawbacks. Sometimes it's easier to sit behind our monitors and feel connected than to actually go out and take a chance on meeting other folks face to face. It's amazing how meeting people real time can change or alter ones perception of a sub-culture, an event, or even a specific person. In some ways 'online' has taken the humanity and physical touch out of BDSM. I've also noticed that different sites have different paradigms. CM tends to be more hetero based and romantically based. Other sites tend to focus on the sexual aspect of BDSM to the exclusion of the development of long term romantic relationships. Depending on what site you have access to does tend to skew your perspective of what BDSM is all about. If one were only looking at BDSM as represented by a few websites, one would have a very limited idea of what was really going on in the day to day interactions of BDSM people. Though the internet allows for people to connect and share information and ideas on a global scale, it can also create a great deal of isolation and false 'truths' about WIITWD. Wickad
