I have not seen the movie. I have read the book and I can say that I liked it, but I enjoyed the Beauty series way more!

Horrid film. I've placed it on my personal worst of the worst list of cinematic experiences. "O" occupies a section of my video collection between "Children shouldn't play with dead things" and "I spit on your grave" with the other sub-B titles I've collected over the years.

"The Story of O" is a cinematic marvel of bad filming techniques and sub-standard acting. It could only have been worse as a Monty Python film, although I'm sure John Cleese would have made a more convincing "O" back in the day.

I have looked everywhere and am lost, i dont know where to find the movie. Has anyone got any suggestions on where i can get it?

I bought the book on-line for something like $1. It wasn't worth one penny more. You can do a "google" search for "The Story of O" and the purchase option will come up. While I never saw the movie, I thought the book was dreadful. The ending was horrific. This wasn't my idea of BDSM, it was more like traumatic abuse to me, especially with permission to kill herself given at the end.

I am a guy who loves this type of book. I loved it

Both the book and the movie were pretty substandard and absurd overall.

I find that those who actually enjoyed them are about the same as both of them. [:D]

Cindersslipper1 -> RE: did any one acctualy like "the story of O" (10/19/2005 5:52:47 AM)

I have seen the movie and read the book, i have to say the movie was dissapointing when watched after reading the book, as per the norm when converting the book into a movie essential parts were left out and i found it lacking compared with what the book made me feel. i wouldnt recommend the movie to anyone.

i started watching the movie and it seamed really crappy and corny not cause of it's age but because of the additudes that i saw in it freaked me out expesaly when the one guy said they had to make her cry i stopped watching and turned it off

I enjoyed the book and I found the movie to be entertaining :)

Many people in BDSM obviously find the book to be much colder and more objectifying than they are about their own BDSM dynamic and thus it is obviously no tsomehting they enjoyed reading.

On the other hand, most of the people I know who have a more service oriented relationship style found it to be quite enjoyable.

MasterEsse -> RE: did any one acctualy like "the story of O" (10/19/2005 1:40:16 PM)

I LOVED the story of 'O' and still keep a copy at home both of the book and the
film. I remember when I bought the book, it was while I was passing through
Singapore airport boarding a 10hr flight to New Zealand on business. I opened that
book up and didn't put it down for the entire flight. It's the only time I've had a continuos
hard on for 10hrs. I found it amazing... had to keep running off to the toilet for a quick
tug :)

gypsyeyez -> RE: did any one acctualy like "the story of O" (10/19/2005 3:30:55 PM)

Personally I really liked it as well, I read the book though never saw the movie the book kept my interest so much so I struggled to set it down. maybe the best Idea for a new movie is to update the movie to todays standards. Cause just like some old romances seem corny and boring to watch in black and white per say when the same love story is re-screen written it becomes a box office hit.

But more so I would love to see the movie of The sleeping Beauty Chronicles by Anne Rice the set of books is incredible and truthfully carries alot more exictement then the Story of O even to me.

As i studied the first semester law a male friend lend me The story of the O and Quiet days at Roissy. I really appreciated the text, for the literary value mostly. The described context is not mine in the world of bdsm, meaning i am not interested in D/s, the S/M parts on the other hand appealed to me.

I saw the movie and i was not taken by it, and opposite to john warren, the changed end is imo wrong. It sugarcoates the story and the idea.

Should have kept watching. The movie had a much different, and in my opinion... better, ending than the book.

In fact, the ending is the ending of one of the sequals (there are two, and I forget which one it is, I think the 'unauthorised' one). I found it a good creative decision to pick that out and tack it onto the end of the original novel.

Personally, I loved the novel when I was young but it'd probably bore me if I read it now. I find the film cheesy, but basically enjoyable.

pinkpleasures -> RE: did any one acctualy like "the story of O" (10/22/2005 8:13:28 AM)

i googled the "Story of O" and read it online. i was horrified at some parts; felt let down in others; and did not like the ending. But those little charms she wore on her "other" lips sounded sexy...though i'd never do it. The men in the story were all repugnant; i think that's why i did not enjoy it more.

PainMadeFlesh -> RE: did any one acctualy like "the story of O" (11/9/2005 6:12:36 AM)

I read the Graphic Novels and everything about them was amazing. The artwork as well as the content of the story. I would suggest this to everyone in the lifestyle.

Jacques1000 -> "The story of O" (11/9/2005 9:13:27 AM)

I enjoyed the book more than the movie but it was quite repetitious and unremitting.

I much preferred 'The Story of the Eye' by George Bataille that was arguably inspired by "Pauline Reage's" book.

BitterAndromache -> RE: "The story of O" (11/9/2005 12:07:12 PM)

I didn't know there *was* a movie, but I liked the book when I first read it--granted, that was in 1994 and I was 16 years old. I had a paperback copy and took it to school to read in my English class, and being a teenager, of course I thought that I was being *soooo* scandalous...

Then I found that my English teacher had never heard of it. She didn't appreciate it when I asked if I could do my book report on de Sade's "Crimes of Love," though [:D]

I don't have the book anymore, but I've debated picking it up again to see how the past eleven years have changed my perception. I'm also considering hunting down a copy in the original French, to see if anything was lost in the translation.

No to both book and films and no too the sleeping beauty series either. A big yes to the Marketplace though.

Oh goodness, i thought i was the only person on earth who didn't like "O" or "Beauty". i finally read them in my mid 30's to see what all the fuss was about and very disappointed. Each had a certain degree of "hubba-hubba" but felt both girls were dubious examples of slaves...each for a different reason.

Now on the other hand, the market series in my opinion was excellent.

Guido Crepax is one of my favorite cartoonists, and I adore the comic adaption. I wish more of his stuff was translated into English. When i visited Italy I was lucky to find some large art books by the man.

I have been unable to get through a single Beauty book, I hate the writing style and the character only irritates the crap out of me.

I read the first Market book, and actually enjoyed it although I never followed up and purchased more of the series.

A new series coming out is started with Carrie's Story, anyone seen that? It had some hot moments, and the writing style is good, but my lack of interest in ponyplay made a lot of it irrelevant to me. Also, based on the description on the back cover, I expected the main character to be a lot more verbally articulate and literary, but aside from one reference to Pynchon it was very disappointing.

One of these days I'd love to read a BDSM novel which features a woman I'd actually want to date.

You know, i can pick out some posts here which recommend (or denounce) a movie or film, but i'd love to see a list. i've never even seen a regular X-rated movie, and am saving that experience to share with my One. However, i'd still enjoy seeing titles; and i can read anything. i was going to buy the "Beauty" series but not now; i have tried to read Ann Rice before and simply could not. It does not surprise me that the Beauty" books left some cold.

In my day, we smuggled copies of "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou, because on page 272 (or so) a sex scene appears. Same for some of Ann Rand's books; we weighed through "The Fountainhead" for 2 pages of sex. Never had the patience to read Shakespeare but i am told he refers to "the beast with two backs" to describe sex. At 15, this would have been highly enlightening. "Lady Chatterly's Lover", by D.H. Lawrence, had no sex in it at all that i could see. Picked up some interesting ideas from "Valley of the Dolls" by Jacqueline Susann. LOL.
