my cat, maximus, plays fetch with bottle caps and greets us at the door, but Alpha still hates him because he's a cat. I think I'm more of a cat-like person than a dog-like person though, and we get along alright. Until I start shredding the couch, that is!

Leatherist -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 1:04:58 PM)

I like animals too...Properly prapared, they are delicious and nutritious!

I'm a total cat person. My cats love me. I have stories that would make any pet lover tear up to prove it. And, EVERY time I come in the door, Lucky (my BIG 20 lb boy) is ALWAYS at the door to greet me. Neither one of my husbands EVER did that.

AND...he's kinky. He has a plastic bag fetish. Honest. See for yourself.

LOL My Gracious does the same thing.. and yes.. that sound is UNGODLY loud at 2am!  LOL

What is it about cats and crunchy plastic? what the hell? Maximus will do that all the damn time! the first thing he does when I bring in the groceries is pounce on one of the bags. he even drags it around in his mouth for the rest of the day.

Slave2Bob -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 1:56:21 PM)

I'm a submissive, and also the crazy cat lady. I have the personality of a cat, understand and accept their ways. I have 7 little kitties . The profile pic on CM of me with a cougar, is of a beloved pet. I had her from 10 days old, bottle raised her, and had her til she died of old age last year. I worked at a zoo, and the big guys loved me, and my submissiveness. I was safe with them, and they with me. I never raised my voice with any of them. They hated the dominant type zoo owner. When there was a problem with one, I was called. He hated it when little ole me instructed him to stay away while I was checking the problem, but I was the only one who could go farther with them, without them being sedated. When a huge Siberian tiger puts his huge head in your hand so you can check for an abcessed tooth, and lets you put your hand in his painful mouth, you know you are truly special, on a whole different level.

MadRabbit -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 2:10:55 PM)

I prefer rabbits, because they are smarter than both [:D]

daddysliloneds -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 2:12:58 PM)

i've had cats and dogs all my life and everything you said about them and their differences is wrong in my book; other than that, if i had to choose one over the other, i'd take a dog any old day of the week!

Slave2Bob -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 3:23:16 PM)

LOL- I forgot to mention that my only male loves to be spanked. Get out the crop or the "happy spanker", and he's there.

AquaticSub -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 4:25:25 PM)

Both of us are entirely cat people. I like dogs but don't really like the hassle of walking them every day (which makes sense to me - I wouldn't really want the hassle of owning someone either). However, I have to say that it always kinda amuses me when people talk about cat stereotypes. Both our cats come when called more often than my dog ever did, both are very affectionate and sweet. The younger one is very prone to begging for attention.

Some people like dogs, some like cats, some like flogging, some like being flogged. I don't see it as a very deep thing.

So if people had to be likened in their personality to either a cat or a dog, could someone who is much like a cat, be a "good" submissive?

Valyraen would say so. You always ask Phin - he can confirm that I will chase lights and bat at dangling keys. [:)]

....there is a trick to training cats - you convince the cat it is their idea to do what ever it is that you want them to do...much easier with the human variety as they speak the same language as you...the feline variety you have to use hand signals and treats and such...

LOL Chelle that's awesome, I will let my Owner in on that trick!

Why do you assume an independent / "cat personality" person wouldn't make for a good sub? A fair amount of Doms prefer it.

I have been doing a lot of soul searching on my own submission, and lately I think I have been a pretty lousy sub.  I think there have been times when my Owner would much prefer a dog.  But I am a cat through and through.  My appraisal of my performance is not based on his negative feedback, its based on my own self critique.  So I have been asking myself, if I like the freedom to go what I want, do what I like... and yet still have very strong submissive tendencies... can these two work together?

So I was curious in that analogy how other subs viewed themselves, how Doms viewed their subs, and how others who felt they had the same feline independance as I do manage that in a submissive relationship.

shahla00 -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 7:57:22 PM)

sub with cat..

my kitty is not nice and cuddly though

ThinkingKitten -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/8/2008 7:57:37 PM)

FR
Cat person here.
I believe Winston Churchill once said that he liked pigs. Why? Because dogs look up to us, cats look down on us, but pigs consider us equals.....
No-one has chimed in with their Vietnamese Pot-Belly story yet?

Akinta -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/9/2008 10:04:58 AM)

I love how this broke down into the cat vs dog discussion without noticing the actual questions at hand... stereotypes aren't a bad thing, they're there because over 50% of the population has those traits. Admittedly, I doubt any of us here are in the "normal" side of life ;)

That said, I think I'll answer your question kind of round-about.. people are a mixture of both. It's very rare to meet someone who's purely feline, which is typically associated with females. Men are dogs (or was that pigs?). But when you consider D/s, the picture changes. As I said above, we're not really "normal" so it's a bit difficult to button it down. The question works better as a philosophical one: Do you, as a Master, seek a cat or a dog type of slave? I don't think you'll find a pure one of either, but one who tips the scales more to your liking is going to be the type you focus on, right?
I have to honestly say I'm both. A girl who acts loyally and obediently like a dog has her merits. likewise, one who is sly like a cat, demanding you work your ass off to control her also has her merits. Of course, I also seek more than one pet.. and of more than one type so as to keep variety, which is the spice of life.

For the original debate.. I prefer cats over dogs. But I have a cat who thinks like a dog. He comes when called, waits for you by the door, plays fetch, etc. Many others here also seem to have the same. But I also have one cat who wants me and only me. When friends come over, he gets jealous and runs to me and sits on my chest and refuses to go until they know that I am his Master.

Fast Reply:
(all animal references, unless followed by -boy or -girl, are to the biological animals)

Daddy was always a dog person before I introduced him to the joy of kitties. Actually, our first cat was his fault. (Hey, let's go look at the free kittens.) Now he's "owned" by his Furry Little Mistress, Nile. She'd probably wield a vicious single-tail if she had opposable thumbs.

Did he learn to love kitties because he loves me, a very independent, opinionated, and occasionally aloof lady?

I was always a cat person. As a child I always sort of though dogs were boring, and a bit stupid. I also liked to get into mischief, climb trees, play rough, and look great doing it. Hell, I essentially was a cat.

Did I learn to love dogs because I love him, a loyal, protective, and affectionate gentleman?

Or did we not realise all along what we really wanted because of prejudiced notions based on species stereotypes?

Food for thought,
Corinne
(it's delicious)

P.S.
Now we have three cats and a dog. The dog and one of the cats have a gay interspecies incestuous relationship. They're even doing that couple thing where they act alike. I call them Dat and Cog.

ApathyRomance -> RE: Cats -vs- Dogs (5/9/2008 11:19:05 PM)

I started writing an essay about girls being like dogs or cats.  I stopped when i realized i could never post it anywhere without getting flamed by um pretty much everyone.  BUT  i have to disagree with the Dom beign a dog person idea.  I hate dogs!  They have no sense of humor, no concept of sadism, they lick you without asking, they jump all over you in a very rude way and ew.  I hate them.  --completely biased subjective analysis, don't bother contradicting it, obviously lots of people feel differently--  so my ideal girl is not like a dog.  i dated a girl like a little puppy.  i don't want to train a puppy.  I am a cat person.  i want a little kitten girl who doesnt mind getting pet when she wants it and not need constant attention, but who i can pick up whenever i want and carry around.  and she can have claws.

I wonder, are most Dominants dog people? Are most submissives dog type personalities, that is if they were to be likened to an animal in their traits would they identify closest with a dog... loyal, dependable, trusting, always desiring to please?

Wench,

A very good comparison of the differences. I am a dog person, and have been all my life; however I keep cats for the reasons outlined. I travel alot and the girls are able to take care of themselves with oversize litter boxes.

Of course when I am gone too long they let me know they are miffed by staying away for a few days.

I like cats and dogs, but am allergic to cats so I have a dog.
Would that make me a switch?
lol
