kd, the "proper" term is "upside the head". Don't expect any flak for the mgr from the corporate office. As far as they are concerrned he was doing his job. What a human being would do in that situation is a different story, but that is not a prerequisite for the job. Personally I would've just paid the 18 bucks to make the books balance and be done with it. For me, and for many people hopefully that is less than an hour's pay, come the fuck on. But the thing is Walgreen's is pretty much a Walmart with drugs. Same company. Let me give you an idea of that company's policies. Debbie Shank worked for Walmart, and let them take out for insurance. While driving in a minivan she got T boned by a semi and suffered permanent brain damage. Walmart underwriters started paying for her care, and then her family won a big lawsuit due to the accident. Well Walmart attorneys sued under the doctrine of subrogation. They want that money back. People, even those who like to say that I am full of shit, you must realize the kind of people you are dealing with. They are not like you and I. The Almighty buck is their God. Debbie Shank was awarded a million dollars in the lawsuit, which should have been higher but it was the limit of liability of the insurance policy the trucking company had. I don't know about you, but if she were one of my relatives she would own a trucking company. To explain, on a smaller scale in Ohio you are required to carry $37,500 in liability insurance to drive. Under the rules of subrogation they handle settling the claim. You give them that right by taking out the policy. Here's the juicy part, they can settle the case for any amount even if it exceeds the limits of liability, you have nothing to say. So if you or I would have T boned her our insurance company might settle for a million dollars. That leaves you holding the bag for $962,500. That means that even though your insurance paid, you still can lose your license, house, car, eveything. Those here who like to say I am full of shit (thank you for being polite, you know who you are) are invited to read their auto insurance policies and learn the laws of their state and the UCC. After such research, I think rebuttals will be scarce. Debbie Shank's lawyers did not do their job. Their lawyers might say "You can't have a hundred million dollar company for that", I would tell them "Well just pay the rest of the judgement then and we'll be on our way". It wouldn't be the first time, and there is another possibility, trucking companies are having alot of problems these days. You might not want the company. Whether you put them into recievership or whatever, or just take the company, you might not want it. If you were to walk in there as the new owner and make the former CEO an employee he might jump for joy. Now it is your responsibility to turn a profit. But that is not the point, the point is just what kind of people are you dealing with ? I think that was the spirit of this thread thus my response. Those who know of Walmart's business practices know that they usually refuse to advertise in local venues. They do but it is usually through a collective agreement. They would rather advertise nationally, and it is in their best interest to do so. Usually. Tell you what, I am not smart, you all got me beat, so tell me what is wrong with this. If I were the store mgr I would be able to spend some money, as soon as I realized just how anal I was I would have contracted to have a couple of commercials made, for airing on the Fox 4 news. I mean the same day. Maybe not commit to airing them, just producing them. That is damage control. The story would most likely never be aired. But then I would not have caused the damage in the first place. But Walmart sued for around $400,000, which happens to be about the weekly pay of the CEO. I may be full of shit when it comes to some things (more on that elsewhere), but if you don't have the gray matter to figure out that these people are not your fucking friends, just sit down next to the other box of rocks. Greed my friends, I understand it like the back of my hand. But I cured it. I live a quite conservative life now, but back when I was playing the game I was ruthless. I like how it is now, I can actually trust people around me and all that. Back then everybody was fair game, and suspect. But I can see it so clearly, what goes through these people's minds. They act like an automaton, thinking only of money. Nothing else matters. Profits are their report card. If that store mgr had brains he could have fixed this easily. I could do it right now. "At Walmarts and Walgreens we have a very strict policy on shoplifting. If people stole half of those glucometers that are eighteen bucks, they would have to be thirty six bucks. We are seriously committed to offerring the lowes prices, and any theft is a bad thing. When I walked out there I had no idea what was going on as of yet, I was doing my job. When I heard what went on and actually figured the situation out, well it was different. Here is the eighteen bucks [puts cash on the table] and it is waiting for whoever paid for that glucometer. We can afford this to save someone's life, but we are very adamantly against theft. We have to be. I am sorry that I looked like a monster, but we must remain vigilant at all times if we are to give you the best prices. That money is out of my own pocket, I am not a monster, " But did he do that ? NO. What an idiot. Or maybe not, once you get so big noone can touch you, damage control is not necessary. And it is people too, did the people in that town stop going to the store ? Did they take their business elsewhere ? My guess is no. How bout you ? T
