All to often we fall into ruts. We are all guilty of it,. Once the newness has worn off, we tend to find ourselves doing the same things over and over again with some variation, but, well the familiar we know is going to get us both off, is generally enough. Monday Meatloaf, Tuesday Fast Food and Flogging, Wednesday Burgers and BJ's, you get the picture. Breaking out of those ruts isn't easy, and we find ideas here, but i am going to ask you all how you break that rut. Several years back 1998 to be exact I posted ths method to usenet and it still works. Care to share yours? The Fishbowl game. Both partners write up one line scene suggestions on the computer. As many as they can....cut them into individual strips, (a table format works well for this) and fold. If you run out of scenes, you can add toys as well in or out of combinations i.e. clamp, whip, whip cream and shoes, or even locations. Take all of the folded ideas and put them in a crockery bowl or fishbowl, stir, stir, stir. Put the bowl away until you need an idea...then when you are drawing a blank or just want to do something...spontaneous...reach in the bowl...pick a slip or two and go for it. Now you may wonder how this can be spontaneous, well you never know who's idea will be drawn...but you will find a challenge even if it is only a toy list. A variation on the toy listing is to place slips with all the names of things in your house that could possibly be used, tongs, fork, cups, whisk, spatula...and draw out 4 or five..to see what random toys come into play for the night. Pick out several and you could end up with something like: Location: Back Porch Toys: Whipped Cream, Shoe Tree, Whisk, Silk Scarf and Flyswatter Scene Theme: Interrogation The mind begins to percolate and come up with ideas not previously considered. So...Whats in your wallet to stimulate your way out of that Rut? poenkitten
