You may not wish to marry your same sex lovers or mates, as you dub them, but I'm surprised that you do not lobby for the right of others to do so. With marriage in the United States, one earns the legal right to be at the deathbed of their lover, to share things like health insurance and bank accounts and tax deductions. These things may not be important to you, but it is important to a lot of others who do wish to be legally, spiritually, mentally, and physically by the side of their significant other.

And if the government got out of the business of sanctioning marriage of -any- ilk, none of these things would be issues. They would all be dealt with within the individual relationships affected, and with documentation to speak for the individuals when they could not speak for themselves.

It is the governmental sanction of marriage that keeps individuals from being able to experience relationships for their own merits, and that ties relationships to things like taxes, health insurance, etc.

Informationally, we have lived and travelled in 27 states and 5 countries. In all of those places, my mates were able to inform the medical staff that we were related, paperwork (not official paperwork--merely a written statement of relationships) provided confirmation of what they said, and every one of them got to spend UNLIMITED time (including overnight time) in my hospital room at my side, both for severe illness and after surgery. My mate SR was even able to provide information and speak with my doctors to adjust the direction of my treatment to meet my requests when I was unable to provide that information myself (still unconscious from the surgery). Joint bank accounts have -no- requirement that individuals be married to one another. We've shared bank accounts, credit card accounts, checking accounts and mortgages without marriage for a decade.

I have no problem with people wanting to be married, but I do -not- think that government has -any- place in the relationships between people. Period...and I will not compromise that just to be PC about an issue that I don't believe in.

to me it stands for commiment. not some thing pretty to wear around my neck or gold star that i passed some test. How i think, feel and live that is all that matters to me. I never said anyone else was wrong, I said - how i feel about it or IMO.

Wolfie,

I suppose there is a rationale for everything.

Thanks for the comment.

In my own expierience... the time frame for collaring really seems dependant on the situation and the people involved. My first Mistress I cyber courted 9 months with, when I went to Her the week I arrived and W/we spent time together I was Hers by Her words. She and I were together basically 4 and a half years and have remained friends... throughout the years.

Other times though I would say months.... maybe years it is truthfully dependant on the parties and a mutual consent that T/they are right for each other.
