You know I am kind of torn on that one too.  As much as I'd love to see hot looking girls tanning topless, you'd have to be fair and let all people do it.  Remember, over half the people in this country are overweight.  Almost a quarter are obese.  Of course in the interest of fairness we should speed a bill through that bans men from wearing speedos.  It's just gross.  [:D]

I was raised on mediterrenaean beaches... most women were absolutely beautiful, and when they'd start to mammafy, so to speak, they'd usually realise it and wear reasonably decent swimwear... I have much to grow accustomed to. But I'll still take my top off when I feel like it [8D] .

Kittin I agree with you in terms of the right of the individual to posion themselves with a concoction of thir own creation.... However, it becomes my problem when my neighbor the idiot (actually I fib here my neighbor actually is a NASA engineer and Id trust him to do it but I am speaking hypothetically), starts operating an explosive hobby in his back yard.

It becomes my problem when I have to sit in my hot tub wearing a Proximity suit because of the fireball that may come over the back fence at any moment. Or the dead firemen who didnt realize there is 275 gallons of flammable liquid stored in that residential garage, or the fact that my house and everything in it may be levelled when he went to answer the phone and the pressure vessel blew and sprayed flaming ethanol over a 1000 foot radius...

Without wishing to hijack, whenever I use this argument that what my neighbour does affects me with regards to the ownership of guns and that I'd rather not live next to a gun because who knows how many crazy fuckers have them and can go nuts and shoot at me or mine one day out of the blue, but that I have no say in the matter because guns form the basis of freedom in this country, I get told that I'm an anti-freedom freak. Hijack over [:D] .

According to this article, charred new oak barrels.  I don't know that much about rye whisky.  I've always preferred bourbon.

It's not poisonous if it's done correctly.  People that don't know what they're doing shouldn't attempt it.  The first bit of alcohol that comes out of the still is poisonous.  It might not kill you, but it will make you sicker than a dog.  I've had some really good homemade whiskey before, but I knew the people that made it.  They weren't doing it to make a profit.  Most of the 'shine that is sold now a days is made from sugar and it's shit.  The avaliability of alcohol and the price were the main reasons people bought from moonshiners.  That's really not an issue anymore. 

Hell, I live in a state where most of the counties are dry, but it's not hard to drive over to the next county and get what you want.  Liqour taxes do make up about half of the price for spirits.  But the cheapest bourbon I can think of is Evan Williams and it sells for about the same price as decent moonshine.  And "Evil" Williams (as my buddies and I always called it) is actually aged unlike moonshine.

I do have a friend who brews his own beer. It's really good and he grows his own hops. Now those are strange looking things.

There are laws governing gun ownership in the US. Most states have laws that make it illegal to shoot people (I say most states because I'm not sure about Texas; it may still be legal to shoot people there).  The existing gun laws give you about as much protection from gun nuts as laws banning home distillation protect you from renegade moonshiners.  Which is to say, none, really.  So if I were you, I'd head out to my nearest Wal-Mart, buy a .357 and some ammo, and get my ass out to the range, pronto.  Especially if you live in Texas.

A lot of foreigners seem to have trouble adapting to this aspect of American life, but don't worry -- you'll eventually get used to the sounds of gunfire.  And with a little target practice and enough firepower, you'll be able to lay your neighbors out with only two or three shots.

Yes it is legal to shoot people in Texas. We have NO "duty to retreat" Last year our rights to shoot were expanded to include:

a person's right to stand their ground in the home, vehicles and workplaces, allowing the reasonable use of deadly force.

The reasonable use of lethal force will be allowed if an intruder is:
- Committing certain violent crimes, such as murder or sexual assault, or is attempting to commit such crimes
- Unlawfully trying to enter a protected place
- Unlawfully trying to remove a person from a protected place.

The law also provides civil immunity for a person who lawfully slays an intruder or attacker in such situations.

It is easy to acquire guns over the counter in Texas and lawful to carry a concealed handgun with a permit. You can also carry a pistol in your vehicle without a permit. I have a permit so I can take it most places (no bars, amusement parks, churches etc) but if I didnt it could stay in the car I just couldnt take it with me. The permit lets you carry it on your person, a Texas drivers license lets you carry it in your car and or home / workplace.

By the way, we can also own machine guns if we pay a $200 one time federal tax.  I personally have over 80 guns, not one of which has ever harmed anyone....

Not for self-defense, silly.  Everyone knows you can shoot people in self-defense.

I meant, ya know, like, for sport.  Shooting people for sport.  Or say you're crazy and you just want to shoot someone.  That's still legal, right?

Only if you are a member of Houston PD! (The other day they blew away a CIA agent! Thats right Houston PD killed Jack Bauer!!!) Pasadena PD stopped shooting people though - they have moved on to beating them to death... Apparently the dont get that the Mexican custom of Pinatas is supposed to be done with paper mache figures not live Mexicans. (Unfotunately Im not kidding - like I said in another post there NEVER argue with Pasadena PD!!! You can get killed for DWB, DWH, DWA, or DWY (Driving while black, hispanic, asian, or yankee respectively)
