MladyHathor -> Are you better? (5/11/2008 10:20:51 AM)

I really think I am a better friend to My friends than they are to Me, but that's ok by Me--its not an arrogant statement, its just what and how I support them

are you a better friend or do you depend on them being better friends to you?

Raechard -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 10:26:59 AM)

Maybe your friends help you by making you feel useful?

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 10:28:46 AM)

I dont think we are "better" than one another. I am there when they need me, and they woud be there if I needed them. I am not better for being there more often, I am luckier that I dont need them to be there for me for things. At least thats how I see it.

I don't compete with them.  We are all equally awesome.  [:)]

I just returned home from an 11 day adventure with two of my closest friends.  Never once did any of us feel the need for "alone time", or to be anything we are not.  We encourage each other to be healthy, happy and to simply be who we are.  We love each other and show it, and when one needs a helping hand, the others are there.  We have helped carry each other through some terrible shit and we have celebrated our joys together.  I have amazing friends who happen to think I'm amazing, too.  We are all very blessed and fortunate.

Very well said, Ownedgirlie. When people start viewing themselves as being 'better' then their friends it's not a friendship at all, it's a friendly exchange with strings. I couldn't ever imagine keeping a tally on who does what for whom or to what degree.

celticlord2112 -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 1:06:43 PM)

I am a friend, or I am not a friend.  Words like "better" have no place in the sentence.

If I do not want to be a friend to someone, or I feel my friendship is abused, I stop being that person's friend.

That is as far as I contemplate the matter.

I am a loner and alone.

My friends and relatives live in other towns.

I am also apathic and a walk-over.

That is where I am--I didn't mean better---as I think about it, it seems I provide something special that they need----how arrogant I was for a bit and didnt mean that at all--

as always-My thanks.

I think I'm an exceptional friend, and I'd hope they'd say that about me.

In the interim...I think my friends are beyond exceptional.

Politesub53 -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 3:23:41 PM)

I think the OP makes a good point. I have several friends that never seem to be around when needed, yet i never let them down. I put this down to how i was raised, and the fact i possibly have more free time, no more no less. So in that respect, yes i am better. It isnt arrogance, its just how it is.

PanthersMom -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 3:35:05 PM)

99% of my friends live out of town or have moved away over the years to follow spouses and careers.  we're still in close touch because of the internet and phone calls, and we're always still  just a phone call away at 3am when someone needs a friendly voice.  they're great ppl, otherwise i wouldn't want them to be friends, merely acquaintences.

I'm... kind of a big deal.  People know me.

I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

stella41b -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 7:14:36 PM)

I have friends who are just different, scattered around. I don't see a 'trade' aspect in my friendships, each of them gives me something, and they appreciate me for different reasons. I have friends for example I can turn to for advice, and I have a choice whether the advice is coated in sugar or brutally frank. I have most of my friends online as they're not in London.Yes if I look at it there has been a balance where I've done more for some, but the way I see it you only really discover your real friends when either you or they are in difficult circumstances. Some friends have been supportive of me but wanted nothing in return. I've done the same for others.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Are you better? (5/11/2008 7:20:52 PM)

I know a lot of people, but most of them are not "friends" as such.  There are folks who will always have your back, and those who just won't even think to help you, for whatever reason.  I try to help everyone, but in the interests of not being taken advantage of, I do think twice before extending myself too often to the ones who never reciprocate.

My actual friends are fabulous!

Hehehe... Anchorman.

Back on topic...

I have fucking amazing friends. We build stuff together, get trashed together, and run screaming naked through the woods from the cops together. Yep. I have awesome friends.
