I just had my first experience with fireplay this weekend, and no pun intended when I say it was hot.

I feel like I had a really awesome teacher, but I always think that hearing others opinion is great.

he used leather dye daubers http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/products.asp?number=3445-00 for applicators. a pretty standard candle for ignition source and 70% isopropyl for fuel. For fire cupping he used off the shelf shot glasses being sure that the glass is thick.

I would be interested in hearing what tools, etc others use. one can never know too much...

Gotta be careful with those daubers. The handles are thick metal wire and an excellent conductor of heat. If he's them flaming, he should be careful not to hold them over your body between contacts or eventually there is a good likelyhood of a duet of screams, one following the other.

If they are just for transfer of non-ignited fuel, they are excellent.

JW is correct i use wooden handles for my fire batons .I make my own out of turned dowels and drum sticks and cotton batting .Though you can also make finger fire tops out of cut down qtips and finger cots too .the more you get out there and explore the fire tools and tricks the better .There are books out there yet i feel this topic is best learned first hand under mentorship .Glad your enjoying it .

Hiya Phin. We must be in the same boat, because I did the same thing this weekend. After two fantastic demos that I've seen recently, I was bitten by the firebug Myself, and just had to go for it. (Actually, both of those demos were done by people who happen to have profiles here on CM.) I absolutely agree with you. I thought it was hot and a fantastic experience as a top.

One thing that I found fun was working with not just the alcohol, but also a mixture of alcohol and anti-bacterial gel. This worked really well, especially for the cups. Like you, I used shot glasses for a less expensive version. Q-Tips actually worked really well for Me. I definitely see a purchase of flash cotton in My near future.

As said by a few already...be careful with the daubers. Hot metal HURTS the top and the bottom. We find them too short for the type of fireplay we do. Also know that the fibers of wool are much shorter and should the wool actually ignite (ie: fuel is burned up) then the fibers will drop quicker than cotton.

If you do use q-tips (again, we dont because they are too short and do not hold enough fuel for us) make sure they have cotton sticks..not plastic! Melting plastic is not fun.

We also sell fireplay supplies but not on our website (legal crapola). Our fire batons are 9" hardwood topped with a copper coupling and finished with 100% cotton ..very tight and triple wrapped.

Lady Pact...be careful with that anti-bacterial gel. Some folks are actually allergic and some brands contain large amounts of fragrance.

Congrats on the fire play. I pretty much use the same stuff you do for alcohol. I include a fire extinguisher in my bag, a sports bottle with water, a rag and a towel. I use a jar to dispense the alcohol. I also use another dry jar (like a large glass spice jar) big enough to hold the dauber when it’s extinguished. It makes clean up a little fater to just throw the dauber in it.

You seemed to be looking for new ideas. I have also played with larger torches about the size of a kick drum pedal beater. They make a pphhhhrump sound when you tap them on some one.

Kevlar is flame resistant so it can make nice wicks.

Thank you for the helpful hint. I'm lucky to have had that information prior to play. My sub is a nursing student, so he's very familiar with the gel that we were using. Being very new to doing it Myself, I always start small and work My way up. It will take Me a while before I even think of doing this on anyone besides My sub.
