Oddly enough it does nothing for me...I still would never vote him in.  Is it working?

As far as ads go, Subway has a 5 dollar foot long commercial out around here.  It sticks in my head a little, they always seem to have it on during the news.

I have even bought my first foot long.  I won't be buying another as I forgot the other half in the refrigerator and it went bad.

Well, I can envision a number of uses for the technology that would actually benefit the visually-impaired. The ATM machines, for example; the information a blind person requests could be tight-cast using the technology, and no one else would hear it. I would also appreciate it if the ads and stuff being broadcast in a store didn't make it impossible for me to hear what the clerk behind the counter is saying to me.

I can also see potential for abuse, but then there's that potential in every new advance in technology.

pip, subliminal advertising becomes a reality, rather than the impossible boogie-man it was in the 1950's.

You didn't mention the gigantic visual advert embedded in that page next to the article. It's funny that we are already bombarded with unwelcome visual adverts that we are forced to take in as we glance at them. You may think that advert had no effect on you as you ignored it but the problem is your subconscious would have already processed it even if you just glanced at it. No one is up in arms about these kind of adverts so I'm wondering who will stand up and say enough is enough?[8|]

Ads are ads.  I am not that concerned about a quick visual impact that My brain may or may not have processed.  It am still aware and maintain a measure of control regarding My reactions.  However, this new technology concerns Me, as I might not have the control the determine what is even being processed by My brain.  There is conscious influence and there is subliminal influence.  For the moment, it appears that people are aware, in this experimental stage, that if they stand in a certain area they can hear the news.  If they choose not to stand there, they will not be bothered.  How long before we do not know what is being fed into our brains and lose that control?
I don't like this...too much potential for abuse, and I have yet to see something like this that would not be abused.  Just another example of how easily we are willing to give up control of our own thought processes.

You just mentioned how you can control the visual adverts but are going to be unable to control the sound adverts? Sounds like two different mediums and either of which has the ability to pass into our subconscious. Why would you be concerned with one but not the other? Everything has the potential for abuse including an image that flicks on the screen or a sound that is aimed directly into your head. You are unaware of either the sound or the image but you find yourself buying yet another pair of shoes.[:D]

I read the entire article.  The people who knowingly went to the area where they could be hit with these sound waves said it felt like a whispering in their head.  Not anything they could hear from the outside.  These people, of course, knew they were moving in to this area deliberately to hear this information.  It is the method to which I object.
Eventually, I am of the firm belief that information and ideas will be fed into the brain without our permission.  That, for Me, is tantamount to non-consensual hypnosis or brainwashing.  I am an intelligent person, and I, frankly, do not even watch commericals.  I am not easily influenced by ads on billboards, audio radio, in newspapers or on the internet.  I take the information in which I am interested and I further investigate.  But I can, quite honestly, block out what is of no interest to Me.
It concerns Me that I might not be aware of information being fed non-consensually to My brain.  Be upfront and flash it before My eyes.  Bombard My external senses all you want.  No problem as I still exercise a reasonable control.  I can turn it off, close My eyes, turn away from it.  I will take it or leave it.
Don't crawl inside Me.
