dsubmissiveman -> How much $$$ does a pro domme make?? (5/13/2008 4:27:06 PM)

While boooking a professional domination appointment with a relatively well-know BDSM establishment, the lady answering the phone informed that she was having a very difficult day with a lot of fake appointments and wankers wasting her time. She remarked that she is answering the phone for minimum wage and doesn't have the patience to be dealing with all the no-shows and time wasters.

I was a little surprised to learn this because the lady answering the phone is also one of the house dominas.  I was under the impression that professional domination pays a pretty penny, but if she is answering the phone for close to minimum wage to make ends meet, it must not be paying enough.  Does anyone have any idea what a typical dominant can make in the business?  I just found that rather surprising.

A lot. But, wankers and fakes and jackasses that don't show, waste time, ruin your day, and piss you off. I made the mistake of driving almost an hour once, only to be stood up. Never again!

Wankers. Biggest pet peeve in the world.

I'm not a professional so I'll just give you my educated guess.  I'm sure someone will be along later to correct me if I'm mistaken.

I imagine that the pro's who work for themselves do fairly well.  Those who work for a dungeon may not do as well financially initially.  Consider, some of these women may be young (or whatever age) and less experienced than some of the other women.  Men pay these women for their confidence and experience.  So, if the dungeon is training these women in methods of using equipment, giving them lessons on how to appear more confident, etc, they are likely not in high demand by those interested in booking appointments.  Therefore, they are likely receiving fewer appointments of their own.  The fact that they are receiving training and still being paid, is a decent salary in my opinion.  They are learning a craft that will allow them to earn top dollar when they have the experience.

This may not be the case, but I imagine that is one of the few reasons a professional would except such a low rate of pay.

Every Domme makes a different amount. And when the country is in recession like it is now guys tend to just settle for calling and not showing. Basically only talking briefly and without huge detail about their fantasies. If a Domme has reliable clients, then She might make ton of cash for sometime and be okay. But mind you, She also has to keep up having the latest fetish wear because, inevitably, someone is going to request Her to wear it. She also has to pay to get new toys occassionally and all those other pesky expenses of owning your own business.

And please note, just because a Domme has clients doesn't mean that the clients aren't sometimes flakey. Some disappear for more than a year at a time then decide they want to come back for a steady six months. One never actually knows when someone will show up for a session. And in the between times they need to cover their living expenses. So when setting up a session...be sure to say thanks! All this mess is enough to burn a woman out quick.

Five years ago.. Women I knew where making btwn 300 and 500 per hour depending on the session and the woman that they booked.. Some could charge more.. I mean big lifestyle name big lifestyle paycheck.

There's a lot of business failures in the first year, just like any other business.  A handful of pros do extremely well, especially if they are located in a major metropolitan area.  However, it's hard to make enough to cover business costs plus all the "post-student" expenses of mortgage, kids, car payment.  A lot of pros are in college or grad school, and use it as a part-time job with good hourly pay.

A friend of mine just got recruited by a Domme who is well established.  My friend has three clients already -- I'm so proud.  But.... We'll have to see where this goes.  I unintentionally squicked the hell out of her by mentioning urethral sounds, and she didn't know what they were and asked me to explain.  There is no question in my mind that pros earn the money they make.

With gas prices going up, food prices going up, foreclosures going up, less money will be going to entertainment of all sorts.

All I know is, Pro subs make less than Pro Dommes... [:D]

Still, it's paying my way though school easily.

[sm=beatdeadhorse.gif] Huzzah I get to use this charming image at last!

Here's a quick rundown of the overhead of an AVERAGE place, not the basement of your home:  Rent, $1200.  Utilities, $150- $600 depending on the season.   Telephone, and internet, $100.  Water, disposables like gloves, cleaning stuffs, another $100.   That's before any costs for furniture, equipment, costumes, toys, and the myriad other things that are needed to run proper sessions.  Also advertising, security, and the other things that might not come up every month, but are there anyway.  How many sessions at $250 per before a dominant working on her own breaks even?  How many before she pays her assistant, if she has one?

Running a specialty business takes serious capital.  In a plummeting economy, luxuries go by the wayside.  There are pro dominants who make a good living, but they have to work very hard for it.  The burnout rate is pretty high.  While I miss the "good parts" of being  a pro dom, I  remember all the aggravations as well.  It was a great job, but I doubt I will ever go back to it.

azropedntied -> RE: How much $$$ does a pro domme make?? (5/13/2008 6:43:12 PM)

The lure of easy money has got a very strong appeal .Pity there is such a high cost to being a Pro Domme  that few think about , There is the set up of your own place to hold sessions ,or if you using someone else's place they take a cut .Then there is clothing and outfitting ,tools of the trade , the cost of your education and experience ,advertising "getting your  name out to the world .Thats only the start you should also have  some form of transportation with insurance ,health coverage , and accidental insurance coverage may also be a good idea .Perhaps incorporation so if a law suit does come they sue the corp and your protected .Get yourself familiar with the state local and federal laws to also protect ones self .That last one is short of your own lawyer .Fist aide training .First aide kits .Oh now that you have gotten your toys and tools now you also need to  know when to toss them if contaminated and replace them at an expense or when and how to sterilize them for continued use on others .You may also have to hire  a person that make  the appointments too , and if your doing this above board all legal like  there is the accountant  for taxes . Then there are building codes , locations , restrictions , licenses  etc for the city and state to operate .
Are there Dommes out there who do this on the sly  with a few floggers and rope  and two outfits ? sure but not legally and i know many areas that are cracking down on these people .

mistresszariah1 -> RE: How much $$$ does a pro domme make?? (5/14/2008 6:37:59 AM)

Ive spent many thousands on equipment and fetish gear and toys and the victorian house I use soly for a dungeon. It gets very expensive and I have had many no shows and time wasters, Im thinking of upping my tribute due to the cost of supplys and running the dungeon.with all the training andyears of learning skills subs come tot he Domme for her skills and understand thats what they are tributing to

hsspode -> RE: How much $$$ does a pro domme make?? (5/14/2008 8:03:57 AM)

I'm sorry but I just can't feel bad for Pro-Dommes.  It is a business venture and with every business there are costs.  This includes materials, advertising, etc...as well as courting potential customers.  No shows crossover into every industry, whether you are a Domme dealing with wankers, a car salesman selling to someone who is just looking, a rep selling to a surgeon who is just looking for money for his resident program, etc...

I am sure there is a VERY wide range of income levels based on too many factors to list, but I wouldn't be suprised if the top Dommes aren't making good 6 figure incomes in the 2's or 3's if not higher.

sslaveO -> RE: How much $$$ does a pro domme make?? (5/14/2008 11:37:32 AM)

It varies as much as any other industry as many have said.  I know one who has been a Prodomme with many loyal clients, subs and slaves for years who makes well, well over six figures.  She is passionate and amazing at what she does and therefore, she has a lot of very regular clients for years and years and a fabulous reputation that makes her very sought after.  She also has many buying her absurd amounts of gifts and taking her to expensive restaurants on a regular basis.

I also know house dungeon 'girls' who are doing this while they are in school who make maybe $500 a week.

My first Mistress years ago was in the midwest and started prodomming; some weeks, she had 10 appointments (she charged 150/hr back then) and some weeks, she had 2 and some she had none.  Where she was, there wasn't enough of a Scene or enough kinksters for it to be at all reliable.  There were 2 other Prodommes in her whole state at the time, and not that many more now.  She was paying $400 a month rent on a small ranch house and her husband, a leather craftsman, built most of her furniture and crafted most of her equipment.  The Domme I know making six figures pays $5,000 a month rent in a very expensive city and has invested a ton of money in equipment and toys.  She has a zillion more people as potential clients and her business is pretty steady and reliable for her, but she also competes with over a dozen houses and hundreds of Prodommes where she is.Going Independent without a solid reputation is not easy there, and that is why many work for houses who have established reputations and regular client not to mention they aren't paying crazy rent and don't have to worry about equipment; the price though is their split is 40/60 in favor of the house and they have to compete with a dozen other Mistresses on staff and sometimes as many as six sitting on the same shift.  It's not an easy industry that you can just make a ton of money in very fast, sometimes that happens but it's not so easy.

There is a MUCH greater annoyance of no shows, wankers and time wasters than any other industry - we are dealing with something sexually based.  Men, when they are sexually charged, lose their minds and do things very spontaneously and then when they are 'done' they act normal again.  A guy sitting online looking at a Prodomme's webpage gets turned on, has all kinds of thoughts running through his brain while he is turned on.. so he calls and asks 10000 questions and makes an appointment.  That crazy charge goes away and the guy never shows up.  Accountants, lawyers, dentists, etc don't deal with that.  Their clients don't call on the phone pestering and wanting attention and acting needy and asking 1000 questions about what they will do to them and sometimes literally jerking off on the other end!  Totally different ballpark.   I would bet for every one appointment that doesn't show up in any of  those fields, a Prodomme has 5 noshows and 12 pointless calls.

The girl answering the phone at a house is not necessarily a Domme and more commonly is not.. often it is a hired receptionist being paid anywhere from minimum wage to $15 an hour off the books.
