In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits.

Voters cast ballots for the fourth time in three months for the seat, vacated when Republican Roger Wicker was appointed to fill the remainder of Senator Trent Lott's term. After winning the primary and the runoff election, Childers came within 410 votes of winning the first round of the special election against Davis on April 22, beating the Republican by a 49%-46% margin.

Maybe, and hopefully, the concept of getting rid of ALL incumbents is catching on with people. Any incumbent, or the party of an incumbent, should get a 'NO' vote expressed by a vote for anyone else, or any other party. You aren't 'wasting' a vote by voting for a third party candidate or using a write-in ballot. You are voting 'NO'.

A 'NO' vote, without party prejudice or loyalty considered is the best path to obtain change.

WASHINGTON, May 14 (UPI) -- The approval rating of the U.S. Congress dropped to near-record levels and is lower than U.S. President George Bush's mark, a Gallup poll indicates.

The telephone survey of 1,017 U.S. adults indicates 18 percent of those interviewed May 8-11 approve of the current Congress. The score matches record lows from similar Gallup polls in August 2007 and March 1992.

Gallup said Wednesday the reason for the low approval rating is because "rank-and-file Democrats are providing no support cushion for the Democratic-controlled institution."

The same poll indicated approval ratings of Bush hover around his record lows, with 29 percent of respondents voicing support for the president.

Hopefully people will express their disfavor with the appropriate vote.

 You have no idea Merc.

The amount of newly registered democrats is astonishing.

The amounts of small,100 dollar contributions is astonishing.

It`s not an incumbent thing. It`s a republican thing.

George Bush has ruined the GOP and won`t be seen much in the up-coming election.

Like it or not, folks tie the republicans to the failed war,bad economy, and housing/credit crunch.

Folks are pissed at congress for not stopping Bush. They`re not lumping them together.

They`re supper pissed at Bush and pissed at congress, but for a different reason.

Obama is going to have to be photo`d w/ satan to loose.

This is a harbinger of what`s coming this fall.
