Thanks to your smuggling comment, I just had a delicious gastronomical fantasy, and imagined how it would be if people held each other at foie gras point and threw foie gras at each other instead of using guns.

What a wonderful world it would be [8D] .

Would that make five alarm chilli the equivalent of a WMD?

This is wrong. Absolutely wrong. What the hell is Chicago thinking lifting the ban? What will become of all those poor people who have been smuggling foie gras into the city? Yeah, uh huh, nobody thought about them, did they? It sucks so bad when the government doesn’t ban things the people want – it puts decent, hardworking criminals out of business.

This is funny. The whole 2 years I have been talking about the good "shit". "Where can a girl score some good blackmarket Fois Gras?"
I had visions of back alley dealings and asked many if they knew where I could score me some.

Local politicians never cease to amaise me. With crime out of control in Chicago the order of the idiot city council is to dictate what restaurants can serve.. ps.. ( they went to the burbs for dinner and foir )

ROTFLMAO

Crime is out of control in Chicago? More propoganda from those cowering behind the cheddar curtain.

Personally I'm thinking very hard about taking pet out for my first legal foie gras in a couple of years. Maybe find a place doing a pate de foie gras as an appetizer with seared foie gras de canard as an entree. I'll have to call around and see what's available.

You're making my mouth water.

Well that too.[:D]
The easiest way to get into this submissive's pants is
First a fois Gras 1st course, followed by Boullaibase and chocolate souffle for dessert. Accompanied by some nice champagne such as Bruno Pillard ,Pommeray, Angelina or Vivue Cliquot if thats all they have. I try to not be too hard to please.[:)]

I would argue back that all meat production is inhumane... I agree that there should be a massive rethink of the way we approach meat consumption in our society.

In my mind there is a slight difference between shooting an animal in the head and force-feeding it until in innards burst.

I would say that though as I eat meat but like to think it was always as we find it in the supermarket. I’d probably be a vegetarian if I watched how these animals are killed and that’s why I know not to.[:D]

I've seen gavage done. It's a rubber tube down the ducks throat for a few seconds. The duck then gets to go off about its business. That compares pretty favorably to how chicken is raised in the industrial coops.

kittinSol -> RE: Chicago overturns two year ban on foie gras (5/15/2008 2:27:35 PM)

They don't shoot battery hens and turkeys in the head - and up to the point they die, these birds' lives are seriously shitty, as they get hormone cocktails, boxed in an area the size of a shoe box... they're often still alive when they get plunged in that bucket of boiling water to remove their feathers... it's pretty gruesome. You must know how turkeys are raised...

I understand why it's reassuring to relativise and make some meat more acceptable than others, but until all animals are treated humanely, and we all become vegetarians, I'll argue that foie gras is not the worst thing out there. Fuck! The Egyptians started force-feeding those birds 2000BC, why do you think they have such long necks [:D] ? It's nature's design to ensure we get foie gras. (Joke.) (Ducks make yummy foie gras too.)

(I do understand why it's distasteful, but it does make me laugh that the product gets banned: seems really holier than though to me. Meat is never "natural, normal or kind" (The Smiths).)

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Chicago overturns two year ban on foie gras (5/15/2008 2:32:45 PM)

To show the absurdity of this law, there a was a small hot-dog shop just inside the City line that sells, foie gras hot dogs called Hot Doug's. The City spend a few thousand dollars in prosecuting the owner and netted a $250.00 fine. Hot Doug's got ten's of thousands of dollars in free publicity and even more in sales increases. In fact, the City of Chicago made more in sales tax from the sale of foie gras hot dogs than it did from the fine! (I am guessing the City auditors finally did the math!!!) Thankfully now things like foie gras, caviar and many other animal food stuffs are safe from the crybabies. In fact... tonight I think I will prop up the industry and have some of both!

kittinSol -> RE: Chicago overturns two year ban on foie gras (5/15/2008 2:37:34 PM)

Those must be fucking expensive hotdogs. Man... what kind of stuff do they use? It can be a pretty toxic substance: be careful, and demand to see where they got the foie gras from.

LOL, I love listening to people that grew up in the city.  You break a chicken or turkey's neck when you kill it.  I've seen people chop their heads off, but it's messy and you really don't want to see a headless chicken twitching as it spurt blood up out of it's neck.

You generally just grab it by the neck and do a quick twist, than you cut it's throat to bleed it.  Now those factory farms generally zap them with electricity before they break their necks.  Cattle are zapped with electricity, than shot in the head with a cattle gun.  It's not a gun in the traditional sense.  If you have seen that movie No Country for Old Men, that thing with the compressed air tank that the villian shoots locks out with is a cattle gun.

I think everyone should kill and clean their own meat at least once.  You appreciate it a lot more.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Chicago overturns two year ban on foie gras (5/15/2008 2:42:47 PM)

BTW... Anyone bitching about the "horrible" and "inhumane" way food animals are treated and then go and dress up in leather, and gets flogged or whipped or bound or paddled or masked or gagged by leather, or gets tickled by feathers, or sleeps on a down pillow or under a down comforter, wear leather belts, shoes or jackets, down jackets or hand warmers or shops in stores that sell any of the afore mentioned items, need to STFU.

kittinSol -> RE: Chicago overturns two year ban on foie gras (5/15/2008 2:52:02 PM)

There's definitely some truth to what you say... foie gras makes for a convenient culprit though. Plus, let's not forget where it comes from (ie. one of the least popular countries on Earth [8D]).

Nice piece of proofreading [:-] .

Battery chickens are obviously bad but we should be buying based on ethics and you can buy free-range in that respect. I take the point about the neck ringing but it's an instant kill in any case rather than a slow death.

You make a case for kosher food. Which in addition to what type of food can be eaten also insists on humane practices of saying a prayer before slitting the jugular , then draining the blood, then soaking it in salt water for 6 hours.. You also cant eat the lower part of the cow, or buffalo.
