Hi, Mommy has asked me to do some research into formal tea party service. I've read all the relevant stuff that Google turned up. Is there a good book on the subject out there, maybe from Victorian times? I could not find anything on Amazon. Thanks.

Well Emily Post would do nicely for a starter. Many fo the etiqutte books by Miss Manners Emily Post, and others can be found E-bay, Thrift SHops, etc.

Amy Vanderbilt was another one who wrote etiquette books.  Try "The Amy Vanderbilt Complete Book of Etiquette".  You could also go to the library and ask to be directed to the etiquette section.  My county library has lots of older books, and I think you would probably find some things there.

While Victorian may be exactly what you are looking for... there is also a very large amount that loves to focus on oriental Tea ceromonies. most common would appear to be Japanese due to the interest in Samurai and many other parts of its culture that is Very RITUAL based.

Also no disrespect towards light hearted: but in the words of tyler durden. "FUCK martha Stewart. She is polishing the brass on the titanic... and its all going down" stick with amy vanderbilt or emily post...
when it comes to emily post though please stick to the earlier books. after a certain point the kids began to continue the series in order to update for ettiquete on such things as emails and voice mails and texting and other such technologies that weren't around for emily post herself...and well many etiquitte buffs I know just say it goes down hill.

I'll go with Archer and try looking at the UK sites for info too.. Victorian Tea parties are part of slaves in our home are trained to do along with silver service. My view is that I'll follow to the letter the Victoirian period as ling as it would still be acceptable at the Court of St James.

i was very impressed to learn that Master knew of proper table settings, and happy that He didn't require it of me. though i very am becoming quite verse in cresent wrenches...

There is a old Hotel near me that has Victorian tea parties the last thursday of every month. It has sort of a snob appeal but it is a good way to keep up what is happening around the area. I have been to real Japanese tea houses. They are formal in a different way.

Try "high tea" or "tea ritual" in your Google search.

Are you going for victorian, or japanese style tea?

The frugal domme started this tea years ago and it is still running.  Groups that last through changes in leadership tend to be much better than ones run on sheer will and ego power.

Search 'high tea' but please don't call your fete' a high tea unless you are serving a hearty early evening meal.

A garden party tea, cream tea, devonshire tea, cheshire tea...all similiar concepts of the 'formal tea'.

The Victorian manuals I have won't be found online or in amazon. You need to go search out antiquarian bookstores in your area. Although you might try searching alibris or abebooks to get a copy of the repro facsimile edition of Beeton's Book of Household Management for the servant's dress code and responsibility as well as recipes. There isn't anything specific about tea, but there is a lot of general Victorian information.

Try narrowing your search on amazon to cookbooks, searching for "tea". There should be several books, such as the one produced by the London Ritz about their teas.
